I got to ride the company plane once at my previous job, and that's pretty much exactly what the scene was, other than having to show my work badge since the clerk of course didn't know a minion like me. That plane (a turboprop) &

You're lucky you didn't get voted down -5, with the Type Police out and about. I like ES5 (would be ES6, but for IE support...) Javascript, but it is a bit light on the immutability aspect, given the environment and problem set it

I'm pretty sure that if C was the first language presented to me back in college, I would have found a new major. C was more convenient than doing assembler, but not much more, compared to say Pascal. (Having learned BASIC, FORTRAN 77

You know we've gone off the rails a bit when the authorities feel they have to automate 24x7 surveillance to watch for things that the neighbors otherwise don't give one rat shit about. (nobody is complaining about anything, but

Exactly, they might take them all down, but more likely would ignore them when they are everywhere, since they would then signify nothing, and be costly to have removed.

Sorry you got voted down. I thought it was funny, even if it is (or isn't?) complete fiction.

Hmm. I wonder how dispensaries are different than any other retail / pharmacy operation? Can they treat the product like cold/allergy pills that have to be watched, or does there have to be legal information specific to each &quo

Having been doing Java on and off since 1996, I would protest that java.io.* is a freaking zoo that I still don't have memorized. For all C's faults, I still miss the simplicity of "FILE (star)", created by either "

I'm guessing that the people wanting this are going to charter smaller planes, where you walk into a small airport, the clerk at the desk says "Good morning, Mr Warbucks", and you walk out the back 2 minutes later onto your c

You could get into Sacramento's airport in 45 minutes in the 90s, although that would be cutting it close. And even today, you can walk out with carry-on only in about 10 minutes, with the expensive parking close to the bridgeway into

I remember using (sharing!) an XT (8088? 8086???) at work in 1985. One good thing about the 386 in 1986 was that it made the price of 286 (AT/clone) systems come down. I almost never saw an XT after 1986. We started seeing quite a f

Even if the *nix machine was no bigger than a PC (e.g. - Xenix on '286; BSD on a PDP-11), it could still swap out processes, vs sharing a single real memory space. But as you said, this allowed (at least the illusion, on some machines)

Back at CSU in the 80s, the Lisp exposure we had was so so. We learned about pure functions and a tiny bit about higher order functions, but that's about it. Nothing much about closures explicitly. It's funny that one of the o

It seems to me that yes, you need an "escape hatch" in an FP language to make your updates. It would be nice if the language required such functions, and the modules in which they reside, to be flagged. (I don't know if Hask

Interesting points. As a matter of style, I still prefer using currying over "one trick pony" (single method/function) classes, though. Sometimes this means I have several "layers" of references to the original fun

Thanks. God, I HATE operator overloading. I didn't even realize Scala had it, until a few months ago when somebody was doing a demo that involved some SBT. It was quite frightening. (Did we learn NOTHING from the C++ debacle???)
