Take a look at the Perennial Philosophy by Aldous Huxley - pulls together a lot of these historical thoughts but focuses on people/texts that haven't become so popular they've lost meaning or been misappropriated.

The founder Dileep George was a founder/advisor at Numenta. I believe it was his paper on HTMs that led to its founding. He left in 2010, but curious as to how Recursive Cortical Networks differ from Numenta's product, which is moving waaay

I think the real takeaway here is: "Email is a better marketing channel then Facebook"

Wait, her husband was "married" to a guy for 10 years before they got married? How often does that happen? "Before his marriage to Ms. Pao, Mr. Fletcher lived in the Dakota with Hobart V. Folkes Jr., his partner of more than 10 years, accor

Is this really true? seems like the early and late stage guys are doing pretty well raising funds. - Summit closed 2 funds with a combined 3.2bn in January - NEA is raising 2.5bn - AH raised 1.5bn - General Catalyst is raising around

I didn't see the original article in the Atlantic anywhere here which is where I heard about this first. http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2010/07/the-poli... It's considerably more indepth and worth reading for a fuller view. I

Most of the venture funds are actually investing the money of pension funds and university endowments, not "rich people". "Rich people" - meaning recent tech multi-millionaires are driving an increase in angel investing, but they are not wh

Forecasting, pricing and marketing analytics roles are all good transitions. Lots of excel still necessary - all you really need to learn is some SQL and maybe R/SAS.

In my experience, click-through rates aren't that great and conversion is really pretty bad. I've worked at 2 decent size ecommerce companies and the CPO hasn't ever really been profitable for social media ads especially compared to Google

I've met the CEO a couple of times, and I'd say he basically brags about exploitative they are. Have to say I'm shocked at how many tech savvy people use them. Didn't realize how convincing Danica Patrick is I guess.

Go to Buck's in Woodside for breakfast ( http://www.buckswoodside.com/ ) and try to identify who's a VC and who's a CEO. Great rich people watching. Plus the food is good.

This is similar logic to PE and VC funds who actually look at Multiples of Money rather than IRRs. At the end of the day, turning $100mm into $700mm is meaningful even if timelines differ by a couple years.
