What’s the avantage of a pager compared to a smartphone in 2018? I don’t see any. I’d rather just use my phone and email/Slack/Telegram.

I’ve thought about it but no, some of the recommended videos have zero link to the other ones, the only link is my “shadow profile” or whatever Google calls it. Tell me how a video about wasp pest control (had a wasp nest issue about a year

On the other hand, even a laptop mic would be better than MP3 wouldn't it? Granted, the quality of the recording would be bad, but the point of FLAC is to get an authentic reproduction of the original recording (however bad it may have

I wish, but knowing the general public they’ll just see this as yet another screen to click through to get their daily dose of bullshit memes, game invitations from their “friends” and other bullshit.

The problem is anonymous data is an ambiguous term, as enough randomness in the “anonymous” data can still uniquely identify that individual. Let’s take YouTube for example - I never had an account with them, yet they recommend me videos ba

Finally. I wish third-party analytics would be next. A lot of apps are using analytics from companies who’s business model is inherently incompatible with privacy (Facebook & Google) and that concerns me.

The issue is that ads themselves are a waste of time, targeted or not.

Well it could masquerade as a pair of EarPods and get access to the audio output yeah. But it still wouldn't get access to the iOS sync & backup/restore service (because normal EarPods have no reason to access that).

Not really. They could allow accessory protocols while disabling everything else. The only sensitive thing we care about is "usbmuxd" or whatever the protocol for iOS sync & backup is.

However, if the car saw the pedestrian, even as a false positive (presumably from far enough away to have enough time to brake/avoid it), I think it should’ve alerted the driver. The driver would’ve most likely started paying attention

Because Facebook? Because they switched from providing a great service to try and milk out as much money as possible from their users by the way of ads and privacy violations?

Could everyone who has a Twitter account report some of those? Just to see if a pile of reports from mostly influential accounts (we’re on HN after all) would have any effect. Here’s a screenshot of the account just in case this actually wo

Well the existing system doesn’t seem to be working right. Blatantly obvious spam is allowed to remain, just see the spam replies to any big account’s tweets or spam on certain popular hashtags.

Most likely, but then I wonder, what do their 1k-5k (according to CrunchBase) employees really do? A simple spam flagging system (that’ll take care of the lowest hanging fruit aka very obvious spam) can be built even by a single engineer.
