You clearly have no idea the kinds of crimes Diem and his cronies got up to in South Vietnam. Vietnam would have been another former colony with western companies exploiting resources and the political class getting rich off corruption.

Have you been to/lived in Vietnam? Their economy is booming compared to their neighbours. They are communists in name only; much like China. You're conveniently missing out the part where the South reneged on promises for a vote o

Way to shoehorn BLM and feminism (both movements seeking equal rights) into the same frame as ISIS and Trump.

Buffett? Look up the Superinvestors of Graham and Doddsville; addresses your 'just statistics' issue. On the general investment management industry, in aggregate they are the market so why would they outperform it? There are funds

Simple solution. Set up an Ask HN: What does job not being a good fit mean to you. See how many people say it relates to cultural fit vs pay.

Quantitative risk measures for longer term fundamental investing. Beta, cointegration, correlation, VAR all break down when there is a discrete event that completely changes the fundamental outlook.

Precision matters. Fit is a poorly used term to basically mean, we don't want you for reason X but don't want to tell you that.

That's not a fit issue. They just don't want to work for that wage. Find someone who will. Why do they have to ask? If you're really interested in efficiency, state it upfront, atleast the lower and upper bounds.

That's exactly it. They haven't yet. Right now what they do is assembly. Look up what Chanos said about Tesla.

Ironically getting that reserve currency status could be biting them in the ass in the short term. You need to have fairly free currency flows as part of the deal. Which means its tricky for them to impose capital controls now.

Not to mention Porsche is coming out with their own electric vehicle. And Porsche always delivers. The Macan is ridiculously good looking. I'd say the Tesla is going to find a ton of stiff competition

The biggest risk is actually China devaluing the yuan. They are reporting their forex reserves on Sunday. If the yuan gets devalued this year this means China starts to export deflation. One or 10 stocks losing 50% in value is not a big dea

That's rather depressing to hear. I think it is a question of how you rate yourself (objectively). If you're good, you can go on to found the biggest hedge fund of all time (Bridgewater). If not, then yea, I think yours is the way

I think the issue is that a fair number of people doing hiring think this is still the 1980s. People worth hiring would like the company to be upfront with them too. If you put the salary range in the posting or mentioned it upfront then pr

Given that Michael's book is 90% about using Rails, I understood the asker's question to be related to using the framework more so than the language itself.

Look up primers on us power generation, should be a section mentioning ercot and highlighting its unique features. Agree that cities could own last mile (preferable really). But, and this is a big but, they're not always well equipped

If the Ruby tutorial is any indication, Michael's book will be the best when it comes out. Never gone through any Python tutorials but I've heard good things about: http://www.djangobook.com/en/2.0/index.
