Quiet ironically to this thread, Target for years was run by Amazon.com. Wasn't until 2011 IIRC that they went on their own. Similarly ToyRUs, marks and Spencer's also were at one point or another run by Amazon.

Such a shame really. I get how they were blind to it, but sears ran a successful mail order business for decades before the Internet was widely available. What a missed opportunity, usurped by a clever computer tech from the fincial industr

I think that's the key - let's not forget what's at state with this story: laying off people. What's the price of extending the tech debt of this core code without 'proper' unit tests, hardcoded values, and em

It's pretty wild that AWS is having impacts for the dyn outage given the shoutout to Route53. Wonder what they know that they don't?

Le sigh, multicast. A great example where software engineering crosses over to the physical realms. When a router receives a packet destined for a multicast group and that router has multiple destinations for that pocket, it must store that

Community colleges have an inverse relationship with the economy - when the economy is in a slump they do well, when the economy is on the rebound their admissions go down. There's a bunch of reasons for this - people go to school whe

Perhaps I'm just old and crusty, but the "joy" of a postcard is that I took the time to hand write something on the back of it. For $3, I'd rather the person sending me this share the picture over a cup of coffee.

Would be interesting for a home security system, or for enhancing Nest so the users don't have to walk past it for it to know you are in the home. Also the paper notes this approach has fewer privacy concerns than other tracking system

I still carry an old style pager while oncall, in addition to using my phone. We would all agree single points of failure are bad in software and system design, I figure same thing applies when doing oncall.

Core is super cool, but I feel there's a big miss for tracking heart rate. I suppose you could cobble it together with Wahoo Fintness TICKR X and merge the data after the run, but it would be awesome to combine those two products. Al
