The danger of overly ambitious goals is their brittleness, and when they break, they break all the way. Much like "the best camera is the one you have", the best diet is the one you keep, and the best course is the one you'll

The triplebyte application is remote (or was when I did it in ~2015), but the jobs they match you with are not. As the author confirms elsewhere in this thread, they need a critical mass of employers and candidates before the process is eff

This is definitely the one that bugs me most. So distracting! All the hovered rows jump out now, where before they just changed gray ever so slightly. This is a place where the metaphors of material design subtract more value than they add.

It sounds like you missed the point of the article. You can't take the ink out of the water, once it's in. When you sell your autonomy over a product whose properties give your life meaning, you pour the ink. Even more painful if

My phone has been this way for at least 2 years. probably closer to 4. It's mostly fantastic. Highly recommended. The sky does not fall. Did nothing to curb the addition, however. I still check incessantly. Just unprompted. Also, turn

"tip creep" is a really great term for what's going on. Services that don't have tips encoded in wage law (like restaurants [mostly]) are either passing along large scale pricing errors, or begging for arbitrary, subject

A number of restaurants have tried this, and more broadly, JCP tried something of the same sort (charge the "real" price, do away with the manipulative abstractions). You start hemorrhaging customers. People's baselines for

I don't think that changes the expectations on the waitstaff side, or the sense of obligation on the tippers' side. The mountain that needs to be climbed here is about narrative/social norms, not real economics. Unfortunately

Where do you work? Sounds like a great exercise. I can think of a few past employers who had much to gain from loosening the leash like that, but were too concerned with productivity to do so. Catch 22.

This talk was awesome. Best explanation i've ever heard for why color spaces have the odd shape they do. The 3d models of perceivable color spaces for different colorblindnesses was also really insightful.

There's so much cool stuff you can do with this data. Think of all the creepy shit amazon does with your browsing data, but for your spending data, and you can browse it. We're leaving a crazy amount of insight on the table. Shame

My understanding with Kodak is that they invented digital tech far earlier than expected (pre 80s) and hushed it to avoid cannibalizing their existing film business. I suspect Blockbuster behaved similarly. It's hard to kill the golden
