Some interesting notes: - Ipad is less powerful than Iphone (at least from a game developer's POV, regarding the screen is larger) - Usability of the app catalog sucks for browsing But what's the most important (meta) insight for me: Games

I would say it's missing a purpose, rather than a story. Otherwise I agree. I can't speak for other gamers, but my time gets more scarce as I grow older. And games without purpose were the first to go.

I welcome whatever brings more women to programming. I think the field would only flourish with more gender diversity. At the end of the article they suggest there might be a larger trend at play because anecdotally all workshops are very s

What's valuable in this article: The applicants should know you before you even start looking for new interns. Having a long-term presence in their consciousness is invaluable.

I suggest Keepass to generate and store your passwords with the password database shared via Dropbox. It's multiplatform and works pretty much everywhere. After the initial setup even my non-geeky GF can use it.

A better question is> Why WOULDN'T I want a password longer than 16 chars? The longer the password, the more secure I feel, even if it's one day leaked as an unsalted MD5. And I don't care whether I can remember it because my password m

It may be more useful and helpful to either show the password in cleartext, or provide a button that unmasks the password. Double inputs tend to seduce the user to copy&paste.

I have often seen password fields that are only limited by their attribute. Eg <input type="password" maxlength=20> You're right, if they actively limit the character set and the length, it must have been a conscious decision

Unfortunately the silent limits of the password fields are very prevalent. I found out the hard way after I'd started to use Keepass to generate and manage my passwords. There are even sites that have different limits for the "Change passwo

Can someone please help me understand the implications? Crypt_blowfish handles 8(and higher?)-bit characters wrong on OpenBSD? Are other *nix systems also affected? Is the wrong character handling consistent?

This is also interesting: The decision about how and when to respond can depend on business or policy considerations. For example, an action in one re- gion might be more creepy or undesirable than in another region. Another example would

As I run a forum and we assess all threats manually (a bunch of moderators watching over the forum and reacting to flagged posts), this is an interesting view of what the moderation looks like when it's automated. What caught my eye: Threa

This comes at a great moment for me. I have just gotten into the second, not fun 90% part of the project and it's really frustrating. Mr. Abrash has articulated why. I'm going to put my head down and work. And ship it.

Imma let you finish, but the Most Aggressive Upsell Prize still goes to GoDaddy. :) Anyway it's really interesting FB uses the number of likes as a score in a game. From this point of view the whole Facebook is a game about likes and you ca

Assembla is not really a GIT hosting, it's project management with repos. You can use tickets, wiki, internal forum, GIT/Mercurial/SVN repos and some build/deploy tools. Admittedly some of their tools have small problems, but the team is re

I agree, it can be remedied by better algorithms - such that can recognize when I'm doing a search for a known item and when I'm performing exploratory search. In the first case, personalize away, in the second case, please show me everythi

Search queries have different purposes. Personalization based on my preferences and past search works wonders for known-item seeking and for re-finding. But for exploratory search and exhaustive search personalization works as an echo chamb
