People are stuck in their ecosystem. The monetary coat of changing platform is quite high if you’re already invested in that ecosystem. Everyone is paying a lot of money for a system they basically own nothing about. You keep paying, for ap

Hmm, that's not what happened. It's not the newspapers that forced google to publish their content, it's Google that found value in publishing news publisher content for free. Google made money from this with ads on the pages

If Google wanted to quit that market, then Godspeed. It would be a tremendous opportunity for someone new to step in (no, I'm, not looking at you Bing). But alas, I'll bet good money that recalcitrant France is still a market too

From the PDF of the decision (see Pelote's post) I understand that Google was supposed to strike a fair deal with the news publishers to continue to post excerpts and images from articles. The publishers never really wanted Google to s

They solved it as long as they can live without contact with anyone else. As much as it shows what could be done with drastic measures, NZ is an island with small population, in the middle of nowhere so it can easily lock its borders compar

I'm suffering from this as well to an extent. It's not a conscious rationalisation, it feels more like being unable to start something because there are too many things you'd like to start, and, in the end, you spend the week

The great firewall is not an impenetrable fortress. People in China routinely access the external world and most websites are not blocked at all until they are found to contain 'anti-nationalist' material. Even then, people use a

Depending on where you lived there were some electronic magazines available. I remember dreaming about articles in Elektor and other national magazines like that. Libraries and book stores had a few books, especially if you lived in a unive

We should have a site where these experiences are retained. My teen years were in the 80s and I was mad about the Z80 in my cheap Laser 200 but was too isolated to have access to much information and equipment. Yet, I reversed engineered th

While not exactly for guitar, Phil’s Lab on youtube recently posted a low noise headphone amplifier design that's both over-kill in some ways and interesting and cheap to make. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2GUoi63pJ
