I believe CloudFormation change-sets have more detailed information about "conditional" replacement cases. I also prefer Terraform. However, both Terraform and CloudFormation are warty in their own ways—this is a space where there

Ideally, you also want to implement "jitter" in the retries. AWS has a good article about it: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/architecture/exponential-backof... The summary (from the article) is that:

I really wish Discord would implement an audio compressor (or if they use one, make it much more aggressive) for voice chat. For example, Mumble doesn't require manually adjusting anyone's volume - instead, it uses a compressor to

I agree with you 100%. I'm pretty excited about HCL v2 - already simple stuff like a short-circuiting ternary operator makes my life easier (no more weird joins/splats with conditional resources in outputs). Hopefully further impr

Funny thing is, HCL isn't actually a superset of JSON. For example, { "foo": { "bar": 1 } } can't be represented in HCL. (Even Consul had to add a kludgy hack to support HCL config as a resul

I'm skeptical of your 10x less code claim. You can definitely get into broken state problems in CloudFormation - with no recourse but to blow it all away and start over. And despite being a native tool, CloudFormation support for new f

You can configure the top bar in the AWS console to show icons only, but that would be madness. (I usually do the opposite and have it show no icons and only text.)

It sure would be nice if AWS would support FIDO U2F. Currently, only TOTP codes are supported. I guess most orgs are implementing that in their SSO solution, but for those of us that still have regular IAM users, U2F would be a big improvem

It sounds like it's a separate, single instance. Definitely doesn't use the same infrastructure as gitlab.com itself (which is a good thing, since that's what it's monitoring), nor is it built to be scalable really. So,

AWS certainly operates that way, but even with a third level: green check mark with an info note box. I think I've only seen a "red" AWS status once or twice in the past few years. Before AWS updated their status page to be a
