I heard from someone that the "biological clock" was made up after the war to convince women to quit their careers. Hearing all this, and hearing that homosexuality used to be tolerated, it's scary to wonder how much of the s

I think, if it's not done on purpose, it's very convenient to those in power, so they don't want to stop doing it. When most people cannot afford to express morals, you have a host of hungry attack dogs. Some of them start to

Then it becomes an externality. Why should sales stop littering when development is the one cleaning up the highway?

I see that they've specified both a transport protocol, to replace HTTPS, and a document format, to replace HTML. BLUF: They should have just run the text/gemini format on top of HTTPS 1.1, make a gemini --> HTML formatter, and

If you're tunneling SSH through HTTP, shouldn't it actually be "Any protocol of top of web"? Also interesting choice to use C++. I don't see the headers for Civet or Mongoose, or even libcurl in the Makefile. Is it

Seems like a red herring. They want you to assume that mass violations of privacy are okay as long as they're not racist. They're also ignoring classism - It's fine if the rights of the working class are violated, as long as

And because we get more done by specializing, everyone has to be as disconnected as we can afford. And although there was always a hidden price on it, now the price is obvious: Friendship is expensive, and your friends also have to pay, for

Reminds me of the post about LED traffic lights. "But they accumulate snow!" Of course they do. And that's an easier problem to solve than having bulky, heavy, power-hungry lights that die quickly. Having a little trouble sol

Yep. 16 bits isn't enough precision for 3D no matter how you use it. When you get up to 32 or 64 bits, fixed and float are both very good.

I see they're still using dithered PNGs instead of JPEGs for images. The first time I saw it (I don't have the numbers handy now) I ran some experiments and it seemed clear to me that a JPEG would work much better, and if dithered
