"Move fast and break things" does not work in the heavily regulated worlds of healthcare (e.g. Theranos) and finance (now Robinhood). FB and GOOG have massive lobbying operations for this very reason, as they don't want adve

Hmm it'd take forever to dig into the respective documentation at AWS and GCP, but from a quick look the CPU frequency alone is quite different (3.0 GHz for AWS's Xeon Scalable and 2.0 GHz for GCP's Xeon Scalable), and we don

Is this the version combining Caffe2 and PyTorch into one framework? Is LMDB continuing as the default data load/store method?

What a weird article. The latest brouhaha is about memory, not storage. The website shows a NAND SSD though as the main picture... strange... and incorrect.

Hey can someone from TiDB help me understand the benchmark results you posted comparing 2.0 with 2.1? https://github.com/pingcap/docs/blob/master/benchmark/sysben... The main question is this: how l

Would something like the TSBS [1] help with this? It's TimescaleDB but they're built on Postgres. They have built-in high-CPU queries, but I haven't seen high-memory before. Can you point me in the right direction? Otherwi

Shameless plug here, but if anyone wants to benchmark in-memory vs. NVMe NAND SSD vs. NVMe Intel Optane DC SSD performance, we're looking for someone with FoundationDB expertise to give it a shot and share their learnings with the comm

Very cool. I've been doing some research on DBs and how deep learning researchers connect them to their data pipelines, but this is the first open source one I've seen explicitly designed around that purpose. One thing I noticed

Holes in the inseams, pretty much! More layers over the top definitely won't solve that problem.

Mostly holes in the inseams. I basically wear jeans at work everyday, so something similar to that look is what I'm aiming for. It'd be awesome to not have to change when I get to work since the facilities aren't so great.

It's mostly holes in the inseams, nothing to do with chain issues since I roll up my pant legs as necessary. Sure, it's possible, but highly dependent on your route and time in the saddle.

Here's a slide from Dormando (memcached maintainer) who spoke recently at QCon SF. He created extstore, which lets you offload values to SSD and keep keys in memory. With all hits on different types of SSDs, he's seeing near all

Poster here. The tweak here is that MariaDB tested the Optane SSDs with Intel Memory Drive Technology (basically presenting the SSDs as memory to the OS) and as fast storage. Pretty interesting stuff, and it's been fun to help develope
