I know Python but I am going to be required to work on some PHP projects. Thanks for the advice though, I guess.

The harsh climate is what appeals to me, of course I wouldn't want to experience it long-term.

It's definitely not something I would want to do forever. I'd love to do it once and have the experience and also contribute to important and interesting work.

It's a daydream of mine to work in Antarctica for a season. I don't really know how it works and I doubt it's something I could do, I'm not a scientist. Seems like it would be an awesome experience though.

Oregon State has a post bacc program that I've heard good things about, I'm considering that myself.

GoRuck is cool, does their gear have a warranty? For stuff like this, I try to find something with a lifetime warranty.

I carry the Jansport Night Owl. Jansport isn't a fancy company anymore but their bags are still "buy it for life" and very good quality. In particular this bag has really nice pockets for my laptop and ipad and I've take

You can sometimes use old glass, but there are a lot of downsides. A lot of modern cameras put image stabilization in the lens. Old lenses can't autofocus, and that is crippling on some cameras. Also some meters and sensors don't

There's definitely a balance. Smartphones have opened a huge world of possibilities that were otherwise inaccessible. I'm amazed that people are shooting feature films on smartphones - that's truly exciting! I'm not one

All of these things are true, but to get good quality glass for a new digital camera would cost much more than I have to spend. I can also get very high quality glass for obsolete cameras for next to nothing. I'm not a film apologist -

I can appreciate where you're coming from. I see a lot of photographers starting out not learning the craft. Some of the convenience of digital can reinforce bad habits. You can shoot a thousand photos in a few minutes, switching betwe

Your comment echoes my own sentiments. I've been shooting for almost 25 years, and invested lots of money into 35mm cameras and lenses. To replace my equipment with digital equivalents would cost many thousands of dollars. Also, I feel

It's not that I think JIRA is good per se, but it gets the job done, just like lots of other clunky enterprise software out there.

The fact that JIRA is so configurable is what's annoying. I spend way to much time fiddling with options and settings when I want the damn thing to just work so that I can get on to important things.

I think Trello fills a niche for people who don't need all of the features that JIRA provides, but they need something to track tickets/cards/whatever you want to call them. The products are pretty different but I can envisio

I don't blame Trello for selling but I'm not looking forward to whatever Atlassian could do to the product. I use Atlassian at work and I dislike their software, though it's not all bad.

I've lived in city and rural environments. In my experience, people in the city are far more judgmental of rural people than the opposite. Rural people are too busy with manual labor jobs to worry about what's happening in the cit

I've had positive results with pomodoro. I honestly think it's more likely to be useful for people who are worse off than you are and can't focus or manage time. If you can sit and focus on your work without help, you don

One thing to consider is if you're a good fit for Medium. The strength of Medium is that it's a platform with an audience, and your articles will get seen by people right away. I find Medium to be a bit of an echo chamber. You can
