In the Fintech space and we use Go and Elixir. Seems to be pretty common among other companies. Company is out of Utah. It's pretty easy to find talent for Go and a little more difficult for elixir.

I think this is one of the more important distinctions, but you never seen it brought up. High level, business oriented functions almost never end up being more readable split up into a bunch of sub functions.

An alternative to pandas/Python for similar uses is https://www.visidata.org/ . You can use Python in it also.

Sounds like a great time to reduce my monthly payments to Spotify by 100%. I overspent during the past two years and based on the macro economic conditions I need to increase my personal finance efficiency.

Watching Gophercon videos this morning, majority of my suggestions were Jordan B Peterson, Andrew Huberman and JRE. How the hell does it make that jump. I only watch software related videos at this point.

Use the unlimited vacation days they give us. They're pretty reasonable.

I mean we also get unlimited vacation time and it's encouraged to be used. This is just one of the fifteen holidays we get.

My God Amazon's PTO policy is terrible. I made the assumption that it would be quite good, but even an O&G company I used to work for had better than that.

I lived 15 min from Ocean City for 3 months last summer, that place was miserable. Assateague State Park was just south and much better, with wild horses too. But no lodging besides camping.

I push for plantuml sequence diagrams for almost any new feature. Keep the files in SCC and can review with the MR. Most engineers find them useful and not too much of a headache to write.

This has a what seems to be a positive effect in my life though. I use the library much more than I used to. Instead of finding blogs using Google like the first part of my career, I find books at the local library.

I know on the testing/V&V side, they use a mix of LabVIEW and Python, at least for some specific teams. Lots of automated (physical) tests are being written in both.

Agreed. All my Go apps were written this way, it was nice to use Pydantic in a similar way. Especially in K8s, where most of my config is env vars.

For real. My wife picked up travel nursing and it's been a huge life improvement. Just check the taxes in the states you are working in. I have 25 work days in Illinois without income taxes, but all states are different.

We use Go for our ETL, with some Python too. We are in the process of transitioning to Argo Workflows from a K8s CronJob/Job setup which has been pretty stable itself.

Learned something useful right away in the cheatsheet. Use table tests all the time, but never thought of the param struct for multiple function params. Awesome work!
