This is especially true when the iPhoneOS has typically used around 100MB since the beginning. 28MB is not much to keep multiple apps around.

Virtual memory (memory paging and segmentation) is the foundation for being able to start and stop apps. Otherwise memory would have to be defragmented. Both don't require the ability to store somewhere, they both are useful in physical mem

The biggest proponent I see for Apple wanting to stop jailbreaking is app piracy, which I heard was a big deal, especially around the decent $10 games from companies you've heard of (EA, etc.). Personally I'm on the side of the fence that w

How many people do you know, whose job title does not start with computer and/or IT and/or sysadmin, actually use the terminal? Think of this as a "meta-filesystem". Instead of asking the OS for files and folders, an app just asks the OS fo

Your generic post looks much like a bot attempting to gain some karma before spamming than a human conversing about the topic.

Maybe it's because I use Safari on Mac, but it actually uses the <video> tag so it's somewhat more portable.

Actually, the few times I'm in Windows I do use Safari. It's mostly because I prefer the Mac-style font aliasing and it's available as an option in the Window's browser.

While this article curses a lot to get attention, I think it will fall on deaf ears because I do not have other phones to test on. Unless a simulator or emulator is readily available for download on my platform of choice, I will not test ag

I really hope that MacRuby is the answer to "unsigned app execution" because the interpreter can be controlled to whatever issues arise (ie. bandwidth, etc.)

So why doesn't Google, a significant stakeholder of H.264 with both YouTube (don't want to reencode) and Android (H.264 is better on battery life due to hardware considerations), just sponsor Firefox's H.264 license?

I don't know this for sure, but I heard you can put a consumer video card in a Mac Pro. You cannot boot from it, nor use it in OS X (due to both lack of drivers and EFI support), but it will work in Windows via Boot Camp.

I keep saying this with every Wave article: Wave is HARD ! It's not the XMPP server-to-server stuff, it's the server-to-client Javascripting that is a giant pain in the ass. You literally have to have a HUGE textarea or designMode parser o

The "Facebook Integration" is literally nothing but a URL to Facebook's share page that's not unlike those copy/paste "Share on Facebook!" you see on practically every blog. And it's only for the App Store. It's nothing special really.

Actually, I like the iPhone as is. While I think openness and freedom is nice and will further advance all platforms, Apple's stance on the App Store (and other misgivings) doesn't personally offend me so much that I would give it up; it st

Does Justin.tv have a non-Flash way of viewing streams? While creating one without Flash is awesome, it's still annoying to have Adobe's horrible Flash implementation crash (and or bloat) watching two-three hour streams.
