I think this is one of the most important things, although as a student you may have less control over it than you'd like. The big problems in picking an advisor are lack of information and lack of opportunity. There may be the "perfect" ad

Some of our collaborators are in the UK, so we discuss some of this stuff sometimes. My understanding is that they are given 3 years for their PhD and do not necessarily take any courses. With a British BS being 3 years, their total time to

Right now I see one removed, but the other one is a fake as well. I was watching the way (some of) these are "cleaned up" for display at the airport the other day. It was basically a stick figure with little boxes showing where items were o

You do realize that Google has a strong political stance of annexationism with regards to Canada. That's why they withhold features from Canadians, to induce them to agree to annexation by the US. Google made their stance blindingly obvious

I hope so for several reasons. One being that I don't normally have gmail open (I prefer thunderbird/IMAP + an XMPP app for IM), but my Nexus One is always on.

Not sure if this is a reason to join Facebook or to stay off it... I miss getting invited to some events, but maybe I'd like to know if someone put me on a hit list. Zuckerberg really is tricky!

Hmmm... I hang around with two distinct groups of people a lot: grad student types with essentially no money and young professionals (doctors, lawyers, etc) with nice, solid salaries. From my experience, it's much easier to not spend money

I have a whole new respect for the ball now! One of my major complaints with the N1 was the awkwardness of taking photos with the screen facing away from me (e.g. self portrait). This tip pretty much addresses that.

The only place I've seen reusable plastic bottles has been in Germany. Are they used elsewhere in Europe? Also, it seems that most of the drink cans I've seen in Germany are steel rather than aluminum.

I don't think the article or the parent comment make any claim that ADHD is not a real disorder. What the study is saying is that children who are relatively young compared to their peers are diagnosed with ADHD at a higher rate because the

Where I live in the US, there is no bottle reuse, as far as I know. In fact, while we have recycling pickup, the city will not pickup glass at all because it is considered too dangerous for the workers. If you want to recycle glass, you hav

Both of my officemates got the N900 right when in came out in the US. They were very happy with it for the first month or so. They are now very jealous of my Nexus One. I think mostly because of the app selection and overall phone quality.
