Some answers: - Default output to PDF has been there for years. - The base .tex syntax will probably never change, but there is no reason why some tool/plugin/luatex extension couldn't read something else and convert as necessary. I used De

The one thing that popped in my mind when reading this was "poor viruses, they put electric charge on them". :) Now it's clear that a virus is so simple that it's not even clear if it can be considered alive, but what if something similar w

Here too, but I guess it's never too late to fix that, right? I'm concentrating on that right now.

I have something similar for Vim. Plain textfiles under svn are a great organization tool. Need to try orgmode sometime so I can copy its features :)

For vim there are some plugins, but it's probably not that mature. Emacs has good integration with gdb.

It seems to me that installing Firefox is easier than risking an update to IE9, yet corporations won't do that either.

What kind of work was it? Something highly creative? EDIT: those who upvoted as "me too" can answer too.

I'm pretty sure you could do a lot of this in Python as well.

According to the website, Parallel Colt supports multicore machines. There's no mention of MPI though. As far as I know, Incanter only wraps it, so it does not influence the performance that much..

For JVM, there is Incanter which is a statistics library written in Clojure. It is backed by Parallel Colt for the heavy number lifting. Note that I'm not trying to say that Clojure would be a scientist-friendly language :)

It depends on what is the cause of the crises. If it's one person or organization, you have the situation described in the article. If it's just all the things around you (your wife leaves you, your car breaks down, and so on), all at the s

From what I know, the statement "You only need to drink when you're thirsty" is incorrect. Also, you are unlikely to "drink too much" when you just have water at your desk. Toxins? Again, no specific answer, but the food is not necessarily

The problem I have with refactoring todos is that after a time it's no longer clear to me why the refactoring was needed (unless it's obvious, but in that case I probably already did it).

Don't worry, if you plan to be a good developer, you will know both technologies (and even more). So right now you can pick safely either of them. Yes, it's that simple :)

Valve is collecting detailed information about how people play the game, for example where players die on the maps. On this page you can see some statistics.

The page says that the brain should integrate both pictures and show a 3D view. I don't think the 'integrate' part works for me, the rapidly changing pictures are quite annoying and I'm unable to stare at it for a longer time. What's your e

It's called "loading request" and Google mentions it in the docs. They claim that with the number of users rising, relatively few people will actually experience it. But the ~10 seconds it takes to load my clojure app surely is not pleasant

I wanted to write about Clojure and the fact that it has access to all of Java libraries, but you overdid me. So I'll mention F# which is in a similar position in the .NET world.
