Am I the only one not that impressed with Deepseek R1? Its "thinking" seems full of the usual LLM blindsides, and ultimately generating more of it then summarizing doesn't seem to overcome any real limits. It's like maki

Yeah, but it clearly breaks down the spelling correctly in it's reasoning, e.g. a letter per line. So it gets past the tokenization barrier, but still gets hopelessly confused.

One enraging thing, if some guy on GitHub can do this, why the F** can't billion-dollar search giants put in a little human effort to do it too, right in their search engines? SEO spam and AI slop are easily spotted on the human level.

Agreed, if you have to have a web server and separate worker servers, then Postgres is likely better than a weird network layer on top of SQLite. But I'd question the true need for need separate worker servers. Is it for performance

Small aside based on some comments here - People frequently bring up write concurrency issues in SQLite, with the implied idea that if two physical people are using your app at once they'll get errors. But of course it's concurr

Another alternative is GhostText, which I like for long-form editing - it syncs your text editor with a field, so you can work in your editor. Supports vim & nvim, Sublime, and a few others.

Gratifying to see this, I really hope it goes somewhere. Legalese is plain bad writing, needlessly so, and a steady drain on society. Interestingly there's a similar thing in police-speak, where things like "they were driving fast

As a frequent reader (I like to do an hour before bed), I will say that most fiction novels are hard work the first 1/3 or so, getting to know all the characters, the situation, etc. But once you "know the world" the middle t

I'm speaking about C++, where blind faith in RAII is widespread, so I don't know if Rust's implementation alleviates some of the accidental complexity. But I suspect any system with constructors / destructors leads to a

Beyond just performance, RAII (a cryptically named concept BTW) introduces a lot of implicit, indirect behavior, making code much more complicated and harder to reason about. When does your constructor & destructor fire when a dynamic a

Just sharing one aspect of my love for the Fossil version control system (from the creators of SQLite) which I've used for 4+ years. To install it - download a ~10 MB executable binary file, put it in your path, and you've got the

Think this is fixed now - in dark mode, the numbers didn't gray out properly like in light mode. On some browsers the strikethru lines up with the 4, but the additional graying out hopefully communicates the same thing.
