I've seen tools that work like this - Microsoft's earlier kicks at entity framework tried to do it for SQL table block diagrams. They would constantly get out-of-sync as merges happened and were generally a pain to manage. I'

Either way, regardless of whether it's easier - the software world is driven by the power of plain text. Text is king. Text lets you diff, lets you git, lets you pull-request, lets you grep, etc. Look at the popularity of Markdown, a

Azure DevOps has some of this, it has "pushes". You view the history of a PR per-push, so developers can commit early and often. Still many of the same problems occur. Fundamentally, I think the git emperor has no clothes. Manag

Isn't range a big factor here? Like, the shortest-ranged brand-name electric kickscooters have a range of like 15 miles, while that's the most you can get out the longest-ranged onewheels. It seems like it'd be possible to o

That seems like the best option. Adding a motor to a longboard is just enhancing a known proven quantity. It won't have the maneuverability of a onewheel or the all-terrain ability, but longboards are definitely a proven vehicle for

When Bitcoin's simplicity means wasting vast amounts of fossil-fuel-powered compute for proof of work, that simplicity is apocalyptically bad. I'm not into crypto currency but I respect Ethereum for trying to move forwards and sol

There were people quietly pressuring RBG to retire back in 2013, when the Democrats had a fragile majority in the senate and knew they might not get another chance to keep that seat. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/

It's the WSJ. I'm old enough to remember when they shifted from being the stewards of the economy into a mouthpiece for the Bush side of the Republican party. Any opportunity to dunk on the Democrats will not be missed.

Yes, but as counterargument: there are battle-tested compression formats that offer pretty-damned-good compression. If anything, this shows some questions of calculus when it comes to risk-vs-reward of embracing new standards for compressi

Whoa, I had no idea (obviously). Note, that article is out of date, instead of the G icon, now it's a four-square icon. I don't know why they're not just using a standard hamburger icon, but whatever.

XML syntax is bad, but yaml doesn't have a proper blessed batteries-included built-in schema language afaik. A well formed XML with an xmlns will have validation and autocomplete in a good editor thanks to this. JSON can do it too. N

Yaml convinced me that dynamically typed config & interchange formats are a bad idea. Statically typed schema eliminate the ambiguity and so you get to have your legibility cake and eat your consistence cake too.
