not exactly known for its environmentalist tendencies. I think that for once, the US regulations are stricter than the EU ones. Diesel emissions standards are higher in the US than Europe.

Yeah ADHD is one of the, if not the, most treatable psychiatric conditions.

I will say that “The Elements of Typographic Style” is still the standard and probably one of the most ‘Textbook’ typography books, it’s still primarily concerned with book typography. It does go into computers and how they have affected ty

I’ve heard that Nintendo’s standard was that the battery should last ten years, but I don’t I don’t how true that is. They definitely last much longer. I would imagine that the chemistry in the battery would have a problem (e.g. corrosion)

Also, in terms of old video games, this is a visualization of cpu instructions per scan line. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8ph2OVqZeM Around 8m24s you can see how the cpu pauses while ram is refreshed on the SNES. You c

I am extremely disappointed in the FDA’s milqutoast response. Teenage vaping is an epidemic. It’s an incredible problem at the school where I teach. The USB-A sized vape units just litter the bathrooms and parking lots. The media has also f

See also this video https://youtu.be/K7gWmdgXPgk to see how the snes mode 7 (though really you also need HDMA) perspective transformation worked. The whole series of videos is amazing.

Also, while we're at it, ditch most of chemistry, beyond the basics (Conservation of mass, atoms and molecules, formulas for basic chemical reactions, combustion, acids and bases, temperature, pressure, and ideal gases, the common for

It is at least the end game for marketing and advertising. E.g. Red Bull marketing wants to sell you the feelings of a life style, not a caffeinated beverage. It’s definitely been around for a long time for some companies (I think auto manu

I don’t think anyone should have to specify that they don’t want their memory to be exploited financially.

Yeah it would be interesting to see how the apple tv performs compared to an ipad over sustained loads. It has wired power and I think the 4K even has a cooling fan.

Eh just because people don’t have scientific evidence of the truth of their religion (or politics) doesn’t mean they “blindly believe.” People ha e their religion and political beliefs for cultural and personal reasons based on their life e

I’m not sure about in modern processes, but Bosch’s original solution for the Haber-Bosch industrial process was to just periodical replace an expendable steel liner in the reaction vessel.

    by Pulcinella 8y ago

you don't commit to any "real solution" until at least the second go-round, cause you need the context of the whole design to do it properly anyway. Or you just don’t commit to a “real solution” ever. Nothing is more perman

You don’t even need cracks. Helium (and hydrogen) can diffuse through metal, especially at high temperatures. Hydrogen embrittlement is a problem for processes that use high temp hiydrogen like the Haber process.

When I say it’s in undocumented I mean that the fact that you can use UIkit at all is undocumented. You can use it but you are never told you can. Also there is little documentation that explains things like XCPlayground and PlaygroundsSupp

Same. I was hoping we would see that. The Swift Playgrounds app really hasn’t gotten any love[1] since it was first introduced. You can actually import UIKit and the other frameworks and compile them on the iPad but this is pretty much undo

I can’t speak for anyone but ourselves, but we would have more children if we have paid parental leave and universal healthcare (also free college tuition). Financial reasons are why we can’t have more kids.

There is nothing that you said that contradicts what I said... I agree it’s a lot easier to raise kids when you started 20+ years ago when stuff was cheaper and you make them pay their own way through college.

Seriously. I wouldnt use the term “luxury good” to describe a child, but having kids is far too expensive. My wife and I want to have more, but we can barely afford one. The hospital bills even with insurance are ridiculous, paid parental l

You also have actual rotaries that are just buggy where the rotary spins 0-100% and instead of stopping at 100% it will instantly jump back down to zero when you complete the full 360°. I feel like a rotary should “adjust” a value up or dow

The user is expected to make linear movements to operate a rotary control. This is the reason that most properly-designed applications utilize linear slide controls for similar functions. I hate this UI paradigm. There are a bunch of grap

The “For you,” “Browse,” and “Radio” tabs in music.app are unnecessary. They are just ads for apple music. I also don’t like how much the music app advertises music I don’t own. I just want to listen to my music, not accidentally tap an alb

Or perhaps something has gone “horribly right.” Now Lockheed gets to sell an additional 17 replacement jets. I would argue that the goal of the MIC isn’t to effectively allocate resources to defend the US (or even to expand US imperialism)
