"I'm sorry we can't go to that place for our date... we have to go to this chain restaurant, because it gives me more rewards points..." For some reason, I don't see that going over well (unless she's a travel nerd as well, I suppose)

I don't understand the obsession with working anywhere in the world. Yes, you can... and? Do you really want to be traveling all the time? If so, that's a good thing to have... but I just can't sympathize. I like to travel, but it's also ni

You're also in a different country, where you don't understand the pop culture around you, and you're far removed from yours. When I spent a month in Thailand I didn't even have to try, but back in the states it's not quite so easy.

I'm male and I empathized quite strongly with the article. I have friends that I only speak to on the phone rarely, and I have that exact feeling... that we need to catch up, but since we're so out of synch, catching up is kindof boring.

You're drinking for taste and Red Bull is really your choice? At $2.79 a can? Let me introduce you to Dr. Pepper.

You mean something like this? http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/ov_cloud.php It was introduced to Left 4 Dead late 2008. I'm not sure how widely it's used at this point. In settings you can enable it at the bottom of the Downloads +

Since Java 1.5, yes. Perhaps it's an issue of backwards compatibility.

I can't be sure, but in the Clojure case it appears to be done for performance reasons. The final definition of invoke uses varargs for everything after 20, so it's not an issue of compatibility.

Reminds me of something Slavoj Zizek once said: "The worst slave-owners were those who were kind to their slaves, and so prevented the horror of the system being realised by those who suffered from it, and understood by those who contemplat

I disagree. Not with PG, but with a quote from him being a worthwhile comment. The OP was sincere; I think he deserved an actual response, not a robotic one listing the relevant entry in the works of PG.

Measuring output isn't quite as simple as you suggest. Which janitor was more productive, the one who cleaned more rooms, or the one who did a more thorough job? Or the one who had to clean up the vomit?

The filibuster is never actually used anymore, just threatened. That's good enough to get what you want. No one these days has the patience or balls to actually make someone go through with it.

So the issue is regression. I can believe that, but the original story didn't get that across clearly. Though I imagine the concept was familiar to the players, so it was probably clear at the time.

Doesn't work, because the original claim wasn't that they could record every aspect, but that they in fact would record every aspect of their lives. Which seems absurd to me, and that's what I was trying to point out.

I want to believe that's insightful but I can't seem to interpret it any way other than a math fail. I could potentially have 10 practices, miss 2. Opponent has 10, misses 0. Opponent 10 - Me 8 = 2 missed practices... If the competition did

The csv is always available. This didn't affect that at all. I don't think they are obligated to provide export in every way you'd prefer, as long as they provide a standard and widely understood format.
