Typically the Nyquist Shannon theorem is stated to say that you need to sample at twice the maximum frequency for complete reproducibility. Applying this to a digital signal, that does indeed work with a discrete Fourier transform. Applying

I like the thing, but it misses what I enjoyed teaching about these most: phase. Many people know white noise is nominally 'all frequencies at the same intenisty', yet those taught Fourier mathematics are also taught that the same

A fine opinion if you can afford it. I'll take a wage any day of the week, equity is nice to have once I know I can eat this week.

I've seen a surprisingly low rate of research conducted 'R&D' roles through my admittedly short career. The research segment of any work had been limited to testing of ideas that are highly likely to work, the bulk of the

That sound like a lot fun. Working on similar recently, I've learned the basics are almost trivial with the information and technology that is now widely availablr, and this really demonstrates that.

Can't agree more. When we get tool or parts catalogues through work on the break room table, I recommend to all our graduates they spend time going through it, and to look up things they don't understand. Knowing the tool for the

I very much enjoy the dry hunour in this series of videos. The exciting tone for something somewhat inherently dry is wonderful.

I learned this lesson in my first ever public lecture. Approximately 10% of my audience had some form of colour blindness, rendering the majority of my figures incapable of communicating their intent. Since then I have rendered all figures

I remembered Shpongle earlier this year, after not even thinking of them for the better part of a decade. The work clean room hasn't been the same since. It's a welcome respite from pop radio in the main workshop.

>Note established driving range includes aerodynamic and vehicle weight improvements. While some of these improvements rely on a switch to electric, I would love to see as many of these implemented in a much shorter term.

What would be better though? 1kg is 1kg, regardless of temperature, pressure and volume. A litre, gallon, cc, all need clarification with respect to something else. You could use moles, but for a given compound, mass is just a more accessib

I think it would be less strong than a wavy wall of similar brick count, but still more efficient than an equivalent strength wall built in a straight line. My mental reasoning for this is that a (pseudo) sinusoid spends a lot more of its p

The same reason is why my roof has corrugated metal sheeting, rather than plate. This was a question I had students prove out. With the bending moment of inertia being related to the cube of the thickness for a flat plate, the maths trickle

We have issues working with lead at work, mostly due to toxicity. Putting a hole in a sheet isn't as simple as getting out the drill, not mechanically, but due to all the swarf that needs to be cleaned up. 3D printing a bolt-on cover w

That is actually so useful for me, wow. We prototype in lead, which is a pain from an OHS perspective. This would make life a lot eaiser, without the cost of tooling to get moulding nylon/tungsten parts made.

Why be a party of the community if you, as it seems, dislike it so? I don't understand the frequent complaining across various forums where people actively participate in something where they have no obligation to do so.
