Ok, but... a few cells? You're shedding hundreds of millions of cells daily if not hourly? It's not like you're feeling pain, right?

To me the problem with LISP's was never the syntax, I understand s-expressions and homoiconicity and all that, the problem was also....this is embarrassing...the dev setup/environment. In every single non-LISP language/enviro

All that's happening with or without Palantir. We have Big Data, we have data scientists, we have ML/AI....it's going to be used for all of these goals no matter what. The genie is out of the bottle. Blaming Palantir here is

I agree. Installation is kind of fun in an old-school UNIX-y way. I feel Desktop Linux spent the better part of two decades endlessly tweaking the installation experience, as if people spend 50% of their time installing and reinstalling Lin

Operating systems are basically a commodity. Browsers? Doubly so. I don't care who's in charge of Mozilla - if your "product" is your browser, you better hope your "customers" feel charitable. "If everyone

It's shameful period, non-profit or for-profit. But - don't hate the player, hate the game. Our entire system has been setup like this for decades. 99% of earnings have been going to the top 1% for decades now. I understand peop

When they talk about ray-tracing, they don't mean that real-time ray-tracing at 60fps is suddenly possible. We're a decade if not more away from that. They're talking about extremely limited applications for a few effects her

Look, there are core Go developers who admit that parametric polymorphism is a good idea. In fact, I'm not aware of anyone on the Go team arguing against that. Which is what you mean by "generics", right? In fact Go alrea

The first time I saw anyone wearing shoes (and putting them up on coffee tables and such) inside their own house was in America. That’s not an option in the tiny European country I grew up in or anywhere in Asia I’ve been. I think it’s barb

That’s what Go’s bets and rc builds are specifically for - to test your code against a new version before it’s available. The only changes to Go during an rc are ceirical bug fixes.

FWIW, recent Ubuntu versions support a “minimum” installation. You get vanilla Gnome with Firefox and that’s about it. No LibreOffice, no Amazon anything. Quite lean and nice.

Of all the stories Rust tries to sell me on, concurrency is by far the weakest of all. Rust concurrency is a mess compared to (yes, I'm going to say it) Go. Async/await are still far away from being anywhere near figured out nor

Ah yes that. That’s an (old) bug about how logind interacts with gdm. A quick workaround is ctrl-alt-fn-F1 to force the screen to lock itself. Makes the flicker go away.
