Apple was one the companies that created ARM as well. ”The company was founded in November 1990 as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd and structured as a joint venture between Acorn Computers, Apple Computer (now Apple Inc.) and VLSI Technology.”

Either a Silva at home or Nespresso at the office has been my daily routine the last 8-9 years. I wouldn’t call the Silva expensive. Probably hard too find something cheaper that feels better, quality wise, than even a Nespresso-machine.

Sure, they could have been the ones launching the Unifi line of routers and switches, instead of Ubiquiti, but that would mean caring about and supporting non-mac equipment and computers in the offices.

I still use my 2012 MacBook Pro 15”. I upgraded it yesterday with a new 2 TB SSD drive to replace the 1 TB SSD I bought 4-5 years ago. It’s still surprisingly fast and the only thing that feels really old is the screen. Modern retina screen

Hopefully more regulations will come forcing the manufacturers to think about reparability. Not sure where the EU right to repair ended up, but it seems more to be optional and just give better labelling.

I certainly believe it’s scalable, but I have a hard time seeing the need for two caching products, a queue and a db just to get it to start.

Well, it’s not fewer components regardless how you package it. Running docker compose wasn’t enough to get into a fully configured system to be able to evaluate it even.

We looked at it briefly, but the number of components make it look more of a tech demo than a product meant to be installed on-prem. Redis, Postgres, Rabbitmq and Memcached just to run a chat?

Assuming blacklisting happens infrequently, you would have a few orders of magnitude fewer entries and could keep them in-memory on each server and have them fetch them all once every X seconds instead of for each request.

Containers have more than just filesystem namespacing. You also get a network namespace, process namespace, user namespace and ability to set cpu/memory limits. Since you would have a container for each application, you have an easier

For pop music marketing is everything. The major labels are the curators of pop music. Spotify owning/promoting artists would be a big change and it’s probably too early for pure social media promotion. For ambient/classical music

The major labels invested in Spotify to help kill illegal downloads and control their future during the transition to streaming. Now, with competing services, they want to make sure Spotify doesn’t become dominant and control their future.
