The average developer doesn't put the same care into what they're developing the way they had to in the past. Computers were slow in the 80s/90s, so if you wanted your program to run fast, you had to know how cache and RAM wo

Yeah I didn't phrase my comment very well. I agree with your point, if they want government assistance, they accept government regulation. If they don't, they don't.

I should have worded my comment better. I don't like the "privatise the profits, socialise the losses" culture we've made. If they want government assistance, that means government regulation. If they don't, they do

Absolutely! It's barely touched on in the article, but it's the first "R" in reduce, reuse, recycle. By reducing our need to consume because we want updates or need security patches, we don't need to buy a phone eve

I feel like I'm misunderstanding something? The main complaint was having to dig through terminal tabs to find your vim and not being able to Alt+Tab to it. Surely just detaching that single tab would work just fine? Their solution see

I'd love to read a study if the walled garden actually produces more secure software. I've heard this claim a lot but I also see lots of 0-day vulnerabilities for iPhones. There's a patch for an in-the-wild 0-day literally to

The free market will always tend towards monopolies/duopolies/oligopolies - it's the most efficient way to make money, which is exactly what capitalism incentivises. If you want to push for openness and transparency, you need

I think it'll be a big thing in tech circles, but I don't think the average user is going to install a third-party app store. It's also a lot of friction to convince people they should care and guide them through the process,

Thanks for the advice! CKA is definitely on my short-term roadmap, the SIEM I'm working on uses Kubernetes and I'll be working towards an AWS implementation so those certs will be available to me too.

I can't speak to the poverty side, but anecdotally my colleagues and I work in a high-tech profession and our salaries are hardly competitive. I'm earning less than 33K as a cybersecurity engineer and I'm struggling to save u

The FTC already debunked this claim years ago (which the article states). Calling out manufacturer propaganda shouldn't even need to be a thing we have to do... https://www.ftc.gov/reports/nixing-fix-ftc-report-con

Two parts of their statement stand out to me. First is "to enable the repairs performed by authorised repair channels", which indicates they don't really want to make parts available to the average joe, and likely also hamper

One of the big problems I'm having in building a bare metal cluster is the awful error messages. The flexibility of allowing many different CRIs, CNIs and storage providers does let you find something that suits your use-case, but that

I would recommend Privacy Badger over Ghostery - It's made by the Electronic Frontier Foundation (non-profit) and is open source. Ghostery is proprietary and still collects & sells your data.

I have a Matias Quiet Pro Mini (2016) and it's by far the most comfortable mech I've tried (Cherry brown, red, blue and black. Would like to try clear and green). From what I've heard their QC has improved over the past coupl
