In my case, my lungs are filling up with something that is slowly choking me. I take oxygen and have bad coughing spells, and that's it. No pain yet. When the cancer grows into my stomach it'll be worse. I've no timetable s

Hey, high five to fellow Belgian Pieter! :) Yes, I was with my dad a month or so ago, same thing. One small injection to make him sleep, then after 5 minutes, one to stop his heart. It was instant, like switching off a light.

Honestly, when I was told I had cancer five+ years ago, it was just the same. I understood the diagnosis rapidly, cooperated fully, and when they told me I would be operated (on my birthday, 2010), I realized I might live, and prepared myse

If you read my book The Psychopath Code you'll see my discussion on "grounding", which is a simple (yet hard) technique for keeping yourself free of destructive emotions. That book, BTW was absolutely panned on Reddit since

I'm determined to show people that death does not need to be a sad or depressing thing. Loss is, of course. I know my kids are going to suffer. I know they're going to be angry, confused, maybe even self-destructive at times, when

I've had chemo twice now, the first time I got this cancer and now a different mix (folfox). The negative effects are painful yet really minor compared to the potential of getting rid of your tumor or cancer. The first chemo (gemcytabi

Thank you for your email, and I realize what you meant now. Sequencing my DNA to protect my children from the risk that my cancer has a genetic basis... very thoughtful. Yes, I'd do this if I could find a researcher willing to help, an

This is not accurate. Euthanasia in Belgium (as in all countries where it's a legal act) has nothing to do with suicide and everything to do with removing pain and criminality from what is a fairly widespread act. * Doctors who wish to

Well, the original product survived until it was really more work than I could deal with. This was before the days of github. In 2009 I wrote a new HTTP core using the tools we'd developed for OpenAMQ, and called it X5. It's in th

protobufs generates code for one model. GSL lets you build infinite generators for infinite models. Its like comparing an apple with a fruit farm.

You write your own backends. These can be trivial to very comolex. See zproto or zproject for examples.

Look, this can be hard to grasp. In zproject we write models of our library APIs. From these we get stuff as exotic as bindings in Java, python, Ruby, node, and all scripts to build them.

The ZeroMQ core library does not use gsl. We use it in two projects, zproto and zproject, which are nice examples of what is possible without going too meta. I started explaining zproject in my [Scalable C]( http://Scalablec.org )

Honestly, I didn't write the protocol for my friends and family, who almost all know exactly how to behave. A few percent, maybe, have no clue. But then people reflect Bob's style and I'm a pretty chill guy. I just thought it

Hahaha... oh wait, you're serious? I think, and hope my kids will slowly forget about me except as deep and positive experiences, and it would be narcissistic in the extreme to ask them to carry my DNA around like ashes, just in case.

It's not sincere anger. It's trolls who are trying to find ways to annoy and provoke people. There is no point in arguing with them logically, they'll just continue in a different direction.

That is not correct. I was given five extra years by diligent medical work, expert surgeons and great after care. That didn't come from nowhere.

Forgive me for this, but it's my life and my death, and of all the bullshit I've had to tolerate in my life, the insane preachings of long dead desert shamans are the worst. Take it somewhere else, thank you.

It's easy to love a person who will never turn up on your doorstep with a dog and a bottle of whiskey and ask to sleep on your couch for a week. :) I think euthanasia rights are worth fighting for. People will argue that it's a &q

Thanks for taking that journey. I've never had such joy in coding as since we started using C4.1 in our projects.
