The civil rights was full of people begging for unity, and asking Black leaders to just calm down and wait. All the calls for calm today are exactly the calls for calm they've always been in America -- calls from folks who are not suff

Interesting. Looks a long ways away (I'm in the Seattle/Pacific Northwest neck of the woods.) I wonder if the universities around here have any ideas though.

I've considered this too, and honestly considered exiting the software industry to dive into this space. But I haven't really sat down and done the legwork yet.

Biochar, the solid product of pyrolized biomass, is considered a beneficial soil amendment (it's basically elemental carbon -- like what you'd get in a charcoal filter). It's probably not a good idea to breathe it though. I&#

Burying biomass produces methane as it anaerobically decomposes. I'd imagine that capturing that is fairly challenging compared to (essentially) burning the biomass and separating out the carbon. Biomass can be pyrolized to produce fla

One thing I've been curious about -- I've got a few hundred acres of forest land, and I'm maintaining it in a natural state, but that still involves regular thinning/removal of biomass. I've wondered if there's

I'm not able to read any of these as faces, either way. Which may say more about my ability to parse faces than the success of this project.

You've labeled this an "activist policy", but it seems to me that label actually means "a policy I personally disagree with." If banks decided to invest in carbon producing companies, is that an activist policy? Wha

I'm sure it does, but I don't believe it does materially in this case. People are going to have a perception of other terms, e.g. RMS, as well. While yes, what you describe may have influenced an emotional response, I see no evi

Denylist contains the verb you are looking for, the phrase would be, "This was denied." That's the point of the change -- it's clearer about what happened.

There are plenty of examples, from titles of things (eg. " Guys and Dolls"), to expressions that are clearly understood to be gendered. (Eg, "I only date guys." Or "if the guys will please leave the room for a momen

Sure, but do you have evidence it would have moved the needle in the vote. There are many, many well documented phenomena that influence every vote. While they may influence a small number of voters, I've yet to see any evidence that t

I may be misinterpreting or misapplying how they do a "passes majority" check, which seems to indicate 222 for and 166 against for option two. So it might be more correct to say ~3/5s?

You should read up on how they conduct votes. Every voter essentially gets a chance to rank every option against every other option. So the number of options should not impact the vote totals.

Look at the row for option 2 in the data table, it will show you how many people preferred that option over other options. Roughly two thirds preferred removing RMS over "we should talk about this further", for example.

Rather than using %s, %i, %o, %f, etc. You can use a templated string, like this: `This is a string that has been printed ${someVar} times.`
