Have capitalists ever stopped just because their actions (that make them money) hurt others? Because the consequences of the damage they cause might in the end hurt them, too? Hoping they just stop seems futile…

In the CSS that we have today, they are still probably the least shitty solution in most cases. attr() for things that aren't content isn't really supported and manually doing [data-gap="1"] {} [data-gap="2"] {

It doesn't matter if anyone is defending it - C developers still use C strings and the broken C standard library's string functions (exclusively) rather than using one of the many good string libraries they have available. The res

I'd be happy if developers did that, but they don't: So many C developer seem to think they're "smart enough" to handle strings correctly using only the standard library, not needing "training wheels" like

A function that can turn a correctly formatted UTF-8 string into a malformed UTF-8 string is, in my opinion, broken.

And that's why I'm not a fan of C for writing any kind of program: Every time you need to touch a string, which is an effortless task in any semi-modern language, you aim a trillion footguns at yourself and all your users. It&#x

Safari also has some Apple specific features, like being able to show a special dialog for logging into other websites with your Apple account that works differently from passkeys or password autofill, or the redirect based flow they make

Customers have been getting used to subscription only for many other things that definitely shouldn't be services. Why not try? If you're soulless and generating value for the shareholders is your only purpose in life, doing this

Oh yeah, I recently went through that for my mum's new phone. It's a miracle it worked in the end. Everything that could have gone wrong did. Also shout out to the cloud back up for not showing up despite being RIGHT THERE in Goog

I feel like these huge graphics cards with insane amounts of RAM are the moat that AI companies have been hoping for. We can't possibly hope to run the kinds of models that run on 192GB of VRAM at home.

People new to *nix make the mistake of thinking this stuff is well designed, makes sense and that things work well together. They learn. We all do.

I thought it was obvious since I mentioned bcrypt and argon 2 later that I meant plain, simple, single round SHA-256. Usually salted, but there's one database where they're not, for some weird MySQL view compatibility hack that al

Not quite as unrealistic as it seems - I have colleagues I can’t convince that SHA-256 is NOT good for passwords. They just don’t understand that it’s safe for larger binaries, but absolutely not for short ASCII strings like passwords. Also

Honestly, if they manage this, they have my money. But to get actually powerful models running, they need to supply the devices with enough RAM - and that's definitely not what Apple like to do.

I wonder if they phrased it that way deliberately for engagement. "New Chromium reskin, now for Windows" won't get as much attention.

An actual customer won’t like it when you tell them they have to turn off or bypass a security feature to run your software. Not when other software doesn’t need it.

I don't see why everyone expects Win12 to be a good version. Why would they go back on all the new user hostile changes? It's not like you're paying for the OS - they'll want to extract value from you somehow. Right now

I don't really see it as a problem that other browsers don't immediately implement non-standard, underspecified APIs some Googler made and put into Chrome to get a promotion. It's a problem when Apple refuses to implement s

We’re crying at a pretty high level IMO. So many cool APIs are available now in all browsers that enable us to build things that used to be impossible on the web. So don’t only focus at what isn’t here yet.

It probably has a conflicting prompt that tells it to help the customer to the best of its ability and to provide the most helpful information, but also to do what's ultimately the best for the company.
