I don't think 'geek' means anything any more and even the researchers fall back to relying on self identification. Title of the paper should be amended accordingly.

In this particular situation you can developed two versions - one darker, one brighter - and blend them together in gimp. I don't really do such intrusive/creative editing.

You've got the development momentum but it's still not as good as rawtherapee for the editing bit which is the only part I'm interested in.

It's terrible sci-fi but the sci-fi bit is only there to draw moralistic parallels between aliens and the Chinese. Some gruelling stories about China's culturual revolution that were pretty interesting but otherwise it's pret

I don't think downvoting is fair but when you criticize it's good to provide explanations. So when you say it's "absolutely implausible" and it "couldn't possibly" then you should write why exactly it

Most of the time writers just don't care about researching what they are writing about - this is not limited to sci-fi. Whenever a writer does any sort of research it's magnificent - see: The Martian. With knowledge readily availa

Driving is hard. Or not. Driving an F1 car is hard. Driving an 18 wheeler is hard. Driving a Fiat is not. You can probably learn to "move" an 18 wheeler or an F1 car but bets are off whether or not you're going to go on to wi

Once the book is returned isn't it enough to record it in aggregate and remove the record from the personal file? Maybe they should change the way they keep records. Or is that a police thing from way back that requires them to keep a

This is pretty much spot on but not necessarily for long. I'm really saddened by how badly kickstarter is being abused. There was a time when they could've put in vetting into the process but it's really late now. I fear peop

It's amazing how something that is in the end just a computer company can be so uniformly loved (contrast with apple with equal parts of love & hate). I've never heard anyone rag on Amiga (other than to criticize its mismanage

Back in the 80s on BBSes and 90s on usergroups and finally the Internet a bunch of techies did whatever they wanted and normal people didn't get anything. Now they're getting more than any of us got back then and we're not st

Can't know if this is indeed the case but quite a few tor alternatives are out there so this drop needn't be sinister. This is seemingly tangential but when untargeted surveillance is used steganography beats encryption.
