I spend part of last week at a conference (TNW), and it's the first time I really loved my iPad: It's the perfect conference device for some browsing, tweeting, quick emails, etc. Way lighter to carry than a laptop, faster to 'start', and u

While I agree this isn't nice, it doesn't really surprise me. Any time there is money to be made (apps to be sold, here), with something that can be created for free (reviews), an industry emerges to create the 'free' stuff. It's just an ec

Hmm, I'm Dutch (that is: from the Netherlands :)), and I strongly doubt the law here can forbid you to do side projects in your own time, as long as they don't compete. There have been some cases (mostly extreme stuff: like can police agent

While I agree the microsim switch is annoying, the chips in sims and microsims are the same; just less plastic in the micro version. If apple starts using microsims for new iPhones, I'm fairly sure cutting toolkits will become common. Only

I guess if you know you'r going to code a lot, you'd take a laptop. OTOH, if you'r somewhere and need to fix a bug (or build your latest greatest invention), and only have an iPad around it's great to have a good online editor.

I am. I'm an iPhone developer, and I do a lot of stuff in Phonegap. While Phonegap seems to be safe, for now (they explicitly allow Javascript in their Webkit in 3.3.1), that might change, which is scary. Also I have just discovered Titaniu

Can you tell us why? What's that makes this so useful? I can't really come up with many good use-cases for it...

It wasn't just naming a large number: It was taking a random number (last 2 social security digits), writing it down with a $ in front, compare it as price to certain products, and THEN bidding on them. Not just naming a big number. It's in

And, the IMHO brilliant spoof by Techcrunch: http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/01/new-york-times-ipad/ 14 years later, and it doesn't seem too strange..

Nope. Only silverlight video streaming works on the iphone. They implemented Apple's http video protocol on the server side. Doesn't need Apple's permission for that. You can't run actual silverlight apps on the iPhone.

I hope the ClickToFlash chrome plugin still works. My mac runs a lot better since I have installed it: lower processor usage thus way more battery time.

I read (I think on DaringFireball) that the iPad will have an orientation lock switch, which will prevent it from rotating.

If it's not a problem for you, it doesn't mean it's not a problem for anybody else. Especially the more tweaked UI versions (like the Hero) do need work by the manufacturers to be updated. They do have to do that befor you can upgrade, and

Good news, let's hope they spread it to Europe soon. While Techcrunch proudly post that 50+ million people bike in the US, that's only about 16%. Here in the Netherlands it's almost 100%.

Off-course that depends on your method of usage. If you have a large DB of geo-based, but not geocoded, content, the only way to show relevant local items to the user is to geocode them all first. Then this daily limit is relevant.

Skyhook is no-way exclusive on the iPhone. You can use it in your Android or WinMobile app, I think it's included in the Droid, and it's in other Wifi products.

A friend of mine is building one. And although some parts can be printed, it's not print-and-go: It's it already took him 3 months (about 1 evening a week).

I think dating is one of the biggest use-cases for social networks. Nobody is on them just to date, but since everybody is on them, they are used for dating a LOT.

The dutch social network Hyves introduced this a few years ago, and set it on by default. They got a LOT of comments over this (which they handled quite well: sending around flowers and all). But within a day it reverted to off by default.

Most .com's are US based, and a lot of them don't deliver outside the US. While I agree that's not ideal, it's hardly a surprise. I do agree more services should work international: There's a lot more foreigners than people in the US :).
