Try making a simple spreadsheet for a startup, for example for 18-36 months. Before I ever did that, I always underestimated how far the money would go. Most will be people. The examples you name have hundreds of people working for them. Th

In the end the purpose of almost all VC backed startups is to have some form of exit: The people providing the funding will want their money back (with a big return), and only really seldom that happens by paying back the investors from pro

Seems like a smart project, but I think they should change the image: With Heise facebook didn't agree to the modified like image, and I guess here the same will apply.

By default SMS is 160 characters, but only in the default 7 bit encoding. It's 160*7 bits (of content), which is actually 140 chars in 8 bits. I guess it depends on your type of characters :)

I quite like the idea, so I decided to test it out. However, after filling the form and paying, there is no feedback. I expected an email with the rest of process: "You can expect the first results in X hrs/days" or so. Now I just have to h

I really like the idea, but tested the API once, and back then it only returned something like 30% of my twitter followers. Not that useful if the data is that incomplete.

Interesting, Google shutting down new services like photovine (just launched last week!) this fast. To me Slide seemed quite sucessfull in trying to get some startup speed back into google. Suprising move..

Interesting. At 2 cts/GB (as opposed to the usual 14 or so) I wonder if there is a market setting up a service reselling this traffic. Let's say I do all my hosting on AWS, but host a proxy (or a network of proxies) on the end of a direct c

I know an anecdote isn't data, but here we go: I often have >100 tabs open. I also sometimes have to restart my mac, and reopen those tabs. While Chrome then struggles for a few minutes, it doesn't take half an hour, like this article s

Yes. I would like to be able to use our own short URL, but twitter doesn't allow this by default ( I'm sure it can be built).

Apple doesn't make that much money directly on the app ecosystem: If they paid 2.5 billion to developers (70%), their revenue is about 1 billion (the remaining 30%). For that billon they have to host all apps (also the free ones), manually

They didn't this morning, from my iPad. It can be they do device/browser detection, but they don't tell you that. Now, from my browser they indeed ask for a picture.

Great idea. But instead of a serial input, it should ask for a photo or Flickr account or so. I don't know my cam's serial, and I can't look it up easily if it's stolen.

Sounds great. However, it seems only music you bought, and MP3's from your own computer can be synced. As far as I see you can't sync tracks offline without buying them, as you can with the mobile apps (when you are a premium subscriber).

This seems to be an app that isn't (and won't for a long time) possible as a webapp: It actively manages your internet settings, and webapps (fortunately) don't have access to that.

It seems the folks at twitter want to give @jack a bigger role, especially with @ev gone. However, I wonder if he doesn't want to focus on Square, which seems to be doing great things on it's own.

Unfortunately, that isn't possible in the AppStore, afaik. You can sell to everyone, or give away for free, but not to a limited group (beyond the 100 promo codes thing.)

It seems the tool is broken. In Europe, I get 6 ms to Ireland, but 1 ms to asia. I have been pinging my nearest hop, and I get 100-300 ms, with a lot of packet loss. I'm on really flaky wifi, and I think your ping returns 0ms when no result
