I am saying VB6 days, because in essence deployd (or meteor, or parse) are the same as an old-school DBMS database with stored procedures, and HTML+JS is in essence the same as a Win VB6 app.

Great Work. suggestion: I would frame it differently - the coolness of what you are doing has nothing to do with the GUI part, but rather, the fact that it is a BaaS (backend as a service) open source. It's a simplified meteor, or an open

Not sure - it really depends what you are trying to do. The problem we are attacking at Kormox is really a 'Fortune 500' one - which requires an enterprise sales cycle. But I am not sure what you guys are up to...

Here are my 2 cents: When you have product/market fit -> you'd do the 'traditional' thing - ie Gartner reviews, trade shows, marketing etc - All that requires big money - significant investment The interesting part though is when you ar

There is a huge psychological bias for this argument. I believe it is 'sunk cost bias' or something like that. It goes like this. Say you are a miner. You mine. At the moment you get your bitcoins, you've realized value in the sum of (

Question to Sahil or anyone with more context. Where is success coming from? I'd love to learn. What we see here is a beautifully executed very clever idea - which we all (as hackers we are) project into "this should be succesful" and the

At the core, it is a library that extracts text from various document formats (PDF, xlsx, docx, pptx, etc.). It is important to note, however, that Tika in itself doesn't implement the text extractors, but rather combines different differen

I am the guy profiled in that article. I spent 5 years in "business school" before doing my startup. (1 year prep, 2 years of b-school and 2 years at McKinsey) I have to say, though, that the overall experience is being very useful to me

What you say is partially true for 'mainstream' type of things. Open Source is particularly useful for the long tail. That particular library that is very relevant to you and maybe 20-50 other people in the world. It makes sense to join f

Can you elaborate a bit further on the data you have? Is it a flexible architecture where you plugin data from multiple sources? How do you solve ETL for that? Or is it a fixed data set? If so, what is it?

OK - I see. This is a PaaS play in a way, but one that offers a bit more of flexibilty/componentization than the "traditional" PaaS's I was thinking more along the lines of something truly generic.
