Who said life is fair? Or should be? I prefer mercy.

Maybe we should stop expecting perfection from public figures. I'm sure there's plenty of dirt I could dig up about you, if I rifled through your past, all your actions and opinions. I'm really tired of the idea that a hero h

No, and I really should give those a try. That said, when I just want happy-path, idc, just reload on errors, kind of code, it's a sore temptation to just reach for JS.

Bah, I've seen runtime errors with dynamic and strict typing, and I'll take type safety any day. Besides, good type systems like Rust's force you to think about all sorts of errors at all points of the program. It's hard

Just considering the wp text editing box in isolation, it's a hideous masterpiece of a thing, that, alone, would take forever to rebuild.

It's kind of funny, looking at these halting discussions as a backend web programmer. At the heart of it, all I do all day is try to write nonterminating programs in an environment where the entire universe seems hell bent on termina

> It's evacuating a house because there might be a fire in the future. Which is a perfectly rational thing to do, if the risk is close enough to 1. Even in actual housing, they preemptively condemn and evacuate buildings that have b

That's exactly why, as a family man, I hate renting. You end up changing neighborhoods every few years, and none of your friends are permanent.

I think it's still a dynamic and interesting field, and there are still good tech articles on HN's front page every day. I firmly believe that we are still in the wild-west of programming as a profession, and anyone who says they

I really dislike the recent flood of random news on HN. I'm not ready for this September. Is there a new haven ready yet?

If an expat from India, out of his element and native country, with no education or financial backing besides a punishing loan, can run a profitable 7-11, you can run a business too.

I appreciate the note of caution about the panic zone. Is your project closing in on a crucial, game-ending deadline? Don't pick up a brand new library that promises to save your life, do your dishes, write your code for you, and walk

I may be confused about the thrust of this article, but I don't like polymorphism. Independent of my appreciation for FP, I hate when I have to do a bit of code in Java or similar languages, because instead of manipulating dumb data, I

As a web developer, you can write servers that take orders of magnitude less space, memory, and CPU than a similar JS server, without having to deal with the madness that is first-time C development.

See, I hate the use of self, or this in code. We want to specify things exactly in code, and deliberately adding that sort of indirection seems halfway mad. If forced to write classes, I would much rather refer to the class name from within
