Yeah, I uploaded a picture of my Chinese friend with a phone and it said “I thought you’d be sick of that after so many years at the factory” and “The space between your eyes could fill the entire great wall of China” It does seem quite rac

I wouldn’t be so sure of that. My parents, who are both in their 60s and not the least bit affiliated with technology, are both aware of Amazon’s headquarters search and brought it up with me when I was visiting over the holidays.

I always assumed DRM would eventually factor into this. I’ve only ever read about it in the context of media, but I’m assuming there’s ways to use it creatively for fingerprinting and blocking scraping as well. Do you have any links with in

It definitely locks you out after a few requests. In the past I built a LinkedIn profile scraper, but they are really really good at locking down their data. If you even somewhat appear to be a bot, you’re blocked.

Bank of America credit cards have this, they call it ShopSafe. My old Citi card had that although I can’t verify they still offer it. I believe Capital One has virtual credit card number capability as well.

That has been my impression. Sometimes people find little ways to insulate themselves (I know a guy who doesn't put his license plate in the right place so his car can't automatically be tracked when he drives around the country)

Correct. In theory I could get an EIN for my own company and use that instead, but that's more hoops than I'm willing to jump through and I'm not even 100% sure that would solve my problem, as they may tie it back to me anot

It always seemed to me that was sponsored content that probably subsidizes the gas station a bit. Kind of like the crap software that comes preinstalled on PCs to give a little extra kick back to the bottom line for the manufacturer.
