I started programming at 7 years in 1992 on a VTech kids computer. It had a 2x20 Chars LCD display and BASIC installed. No internet. No StackOverflow. Those were the times. I feel sorry for the Instagram Kids nowadays.

Or, she was just bored. Projecting the capitalist point of view on old japanese people is very naive.

I'm german but I've never ever heard of neither the island, nor the trains. How remarkable!

A job for one week was to move plastic roof boards from an automated saw on a pallet. They would save lots of money if they‘d place a robot there. In fact, the hole factory could have been automated.

I built a smart home system with FHEM and HomeMatic for my second flat. I was able to turn on the heating, set and monitor the temperature. This saved my lots of energy costs compared to a timer-based system, as well as many cold nights bec

I do this, too. The first thing I do when I get a new keyboard is to remove the caps lock key. I never used it in my 20 years of PC usages and I don't get why it's still there. Back in my CounterStrike gaming days I would also rem

There are 3 places left in Germany where they're allowed to operate. One of those places is Leica in Wetzlar. It's absolutely fun to ride it, much faster than conventional lifts, but it's understandable that they're bein

Too expensive to try. EUR 4.49 is too much for something without any kind of practical use.

Yeah, this is an NK cell triggering an apoptotic (self-destruct) response in a cancer cell. So it's basically sending a kill-signal to the cancer cell, which then kills itself. This doesn't work for all cancers, though. In fact, o

I'd be careful calling the immune approach easy. Triggering a systemic immune response can also kill you very quickly.

We see similar effects when we irradiate tumors with X-rays, called 'abscopal effect'. Sometimes, when you irradiate a tumor, the unirradiated metastases also shrink. It is hypothesized that the immune response is triggered by the

They are orders of magnitude more precise, and this is the important part. A human genome has 3 billion basepairs, even if you have 99,99% accuracy, this is not enough.

I always found this Code-of-conduct stuff ridiculous. Can you just go to the organizers, finger-point at somebody else and yell "muh feelingz are hurt" and the accused person will be kicked out? Does it really work that way? Germa

Nobody forces anybody to start a family, though. The author talks about it as if it was mandatory, and then puts it as some chore.
