I like Linux, but i have to be honest: Windows/Linux laptops can't compete in 2021 with the Apple M1. Maybe some day they will catch up. Mostly because all the flagship laptops are stubbornly (or rather being strong-armed into)

I agree in principle. The real answer for why most do not do this is that IT-organisations are already under-dimensioned and over-burdened and it’s cheaper to maintain a small set of laptop models (which most likely are bought with some sor

But .. why? Nowadays you can pick in a very powerful desktop computer the size of half a shoebox. Portable workstations are just wasteful.

Having used both a 15 inch and a 13 inch within the last couple of years, I will give the most measured answer: “it depends”. If you’re lugging the laptop on a lengthy commute every day the I would say that speaks against having a heavier 1

A decado ago we didn't expect the following either: * That a complete madman would be elected president of the US. * That people would gobble up all kinds of nonsense facts on an ongoing pandemic; which for many lead to them not

It's funny how a "generation" left Apple and suddenly they're rolling back all kinds of changes to how they were before that generation "made their mark".

It's hilarious that developers throw their hands up in the air when any one of the FAANG companies actually get questioned as a moral place to work. "Well I GUESS I CANT WORK ANYWHERE THEN" Really? There is a vast amount of s

Well that is flat out wrong. FB has plenty of competition since they're competing in multiple markets.

How about /not/ getting the same amount of compensation, and being able to spend every day making the world a better place (or at least, not a worse one)? I have made that choice. For me it was a simple one to make.

I don't think you're factoring in that many of those cables would need replacements during the lifetime of the device they're used with. So yes, I think that it would "break-even" quite fast.

Maybe getting rid of all the e-waste generated by having a proprietary standard that is not used anywhere outside the apple ecosystem? I think that's quite a compelling reason.

A custom mechanical keyboard with low profile switches is probably what you're looking for. Although they are a lot less spongey feeling than the mac keyboards. E.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMechKeyboards/

Nope, it's still absolutely atrocious. My least favorite thing about my Macbook by far. It still speaks volumes how out of touch Apple is that it got included on a device that is supposed to be for professionals.

Amazon must receive a ton of reports of stores doing shady things like this. I know I've sent some. They seemingly spend very little attention to these reports, because it's not like they have to care at all.
