I agree with this. I don't use Linux because of its architecture, but because it provides me the environment I appreciate, on the platforms I want to use, under the terms I can accept. The BSDs are close to the mark, and I would consid

I don't think Plan9 "failed" because of any technical reason, such at failing to realizing over ambitious goals. It was a research project which worked out very well from what I can see.

It's Wine running on Linux (which I gather from a quick look is not the actual kernel, but an minimal self written stub enough to run Wine. Is this correct?) which itself is running in an emulator, compiled into binaries for Window, M

Too me, pumping water seems like a pretty good solutiuon. If you are located on the coast, and can move let's say a million tons something like 100-200m up, that's not trivial and doesn't seem that impractical.

I wouldn't say it's ridiculous. This is generally how a scientific study is done. One "object" per study. An article like this is not made to stand alone and should in general not be used for non-science purposes, such a

That's interesting, I have been under the impression that Scala and Clojure has been limited with this optimization because of JVM.

It would have been cool if Limbo/Dis would had gotten more attention at the time. To me it looks like a more promising base, and was released the same year as Java. I can't at the moment find under what terms it was released back

That's true, but I you really don't need the computational power, you might want to have that well defined limited semantic to either not accidentally shoot you in foot (the least important), or being able to statically verify it&

I'm not invested in this feature specifically, even though I always enable it. I'd rather have a general way of scaling the ui and reducing padding/margins. So I hope it's removed for architectural reasons, not to preven

I assume you're joking... I've never heard of lossy compression in this kinds of formats, as there's no general way to determine what can be discarded without affecting the utility of the data. There's no such option in

Is not the Pony c-ffi, while allowing theoretically the same unsafety, more uncontrolled than rust's "unsafe"? As in the latter case, as I have understood it, you get all the normal rust type checking, except for some pointer

That's how I always seen it described. Not high performance as in low level signal processing, but as in server software. I would think of it like an alternative to Go (and Erlang), but with more focus on performance, safety and more f

Im not of the opinion that we've found the "best" user interface. I think the biggest hurdle is that "best" is so different to different people. One part is familiarity, as many power users know, your setup would be

That also depends on how the libraries are structured. As far as I know, if you were to successfully link in glibc, that would include the entirety of it, however musl libc is structured so only the parts (at function level?) are linked in.
