My biggest concern for military use of AI is how incompetent most military contractors are. These huge companies employ an army of not-very-good engineers whose primary purpose seems to be to over-complicate projects. Imagine the same te

I'd suggest anyone interested watch the series of EverydayAstronaut interviews with Elon at starbase. Or read interviews with past/current SpaceX engineers. He is definitely involved in the design and pushing the schedule hard.

I don't understand the issue here. You input GPL code (the headers) and get GPL code out, what do you expect? The more insinuating issue would be if you started with a innocent seeming function that a typical software developer would

I have to wonder what you mean we're no longer making cool spacecraft? The SpaceX starship is about to launch in an hour, it's very cool.

People like to bash OpenAI because they've taken a profit-driven approach and haven't open sourced all of their products. However, they release their products for public consumption and improvement. In this case I wish Google wo

My wife has this, she's had half a dozen lung collapses over the last few years as the nodules separate lung from lung wall. Long term it is bad, many people are on oxygen for life. It also affects mostly women, and is likely woefull

Well sure, but that's because there's little demand for fast ecc memory by the gaming crowd due to the aforementioned market segmentation. There's no substantial limitation on ddr speed due to ECC itself.

Wondering if anyone has examples/ideas for how to do this with video? I have two cameras (GoPro) that I use to record athletic games on a 20ft tall tripod, and I want to automatically stitch them together for easier analysis of games.

I will say that structured concurrency (coroutine based) via Trio/Anyio is, in my experience, so much better for most applications that can support it. Reasoning/testing threading code is so impossible once a project gets large en

Indeed, the example: > import math prod([math.factorial(x) for x in l]) No! Bad python! In J it’s just / ! l, quite literally an order of magnitude fewer keystrokes. I don't know anything about `match.factorial()` or `prod()`

A number of people in this thread are responding regarding their honey bee population, which I think is very important for agriculture. However, I think the more insidious issue is the decline of native bee populations. From the article:

There's many more improvements to be made in single threaded performance, including things like JIT. Future improvements are complicated, they won't be a free lunch like this first round has generally been. My feeling is that th

Most python code in the world is currently single threaded. It makes sense to me to start with the low hanging fruit that affects the majority of existing code and then move on to harder problems.

The faster cpython project isn't done after 3.11. they're working on many other improvements for 3.12 and we'll see other things possibly a JIT or at least an API to facilitate accelerators in 3.13+ I'm not worried abou
