I want to like you, but for me using GA nullifies every nice thing you say in https://mediacru.sh/serious There is no excuse for not running your own: http://demo.piwik.org/ Also worth reading: http:/

Works super fast on Firefox OS, too! Good job. On Opera Mobile or Nokia Xpress it's unusable though, as expected; luckily the HN site works just fine in these browsers.

Ahh, the swampman! I always thought of this problem when watching characters in StarTrek using teleportation, didn't know it was an existing, famous problem. IMHO the teleported person ceases to exist at some point and a _new_ , identi

Nice of mr. Brin to do this. It should set an example. I'm all for anything that will reduce/stop the mad slaughtering that's taking place now.

+1 for Zimbra as well, is a very nice Exchange replacement! Having said that, Zimbra was just acquired recently (yes, AGAIN) and this fact makes me nervous, not sure whether to despair or rejoice.[1] Mailpipe, if it ever happens, should hel

This is not the last of the problems we'll have with "the cloud", but I guess it's part of what makes it so exciting. :-) Many people, especially beginners, make the mistake of leaving the same SSH keys in a certain temp

Exactly, the people who need it "the most" will prolly be left without it at some point. From the comments I see for a proper "dark net" we now can choose between Tor (without exit nodes) and I2P, this is actually great

Tor's cause is a noble one, but I fear it will end up (if it hasn't already) being used mostly by bad people for bad things. Once you get your home or server IPs connected to black market forums, drugs, human trafficking or kiddie

Makes sense. Tor's nature (and its many dodgy uses) will eventually lead to its demise, alas.

Wish there wore more ISPs like this in UK. Also I wish their offerings were more in step with the times. :( Right now I get FTTC (80/20) from BT for £40, unlimited and unthrottled[1]. I'd be willing to pay a bit more for a similar

Oh, no! I love The H! :( It is THE one serious IT news web site, no bullshit or sensationalistic crap; well written articles by competent people. I'm so sorry it did not work out for them, both for them and for myself.

If you're running a web server then "maldet"[1] is a must, maybe in combination with ClamAV (clamscan). It's insanely useful especially on "shared" web servers; much more so than chkrootkit or rkhunter. [1] -

I'm a long time sysadmin and I don't get all the hype about docker. Is this bad? I have nothing against the project, at the contrary, but it's as if people haven't yet heard about lxc (which docker indeed uses), openvz,
