You give a good example but it is worth clarifying that more than it being a non-functioning free market, it is absolutely not even close to being a free market. The Federal government is the biggest spender in the market, and with that com

I think you are misreading what he wrote. With a single owner LLC, the owner is protected from LLC liability, but the LLC is not protected from owner liability. Search for "LLC charging order protection" for more info.

I'd like to see how Santa Monica compares. 90k pop., and more dense than Berkeley. No public rail (yet), a big commitment to parking lots, and tons of cars and commuters. But I think stands up to Berkeley as far as urban fabric. But maybe m

Because of their unique positions of power, NYC and DC are useful to connect. Minneapolis and Detroit are already connected by rail, train, bus, and car. If you want to spend a hundred billion dollars, the you need to justify it by showing

NYC is the largest city in the US and the economic capital. DC is the political capital. Both are huge tourist destinations. There are myriad reasons people travel between them. Minneapolis to Detroit, much less so. The 16 non stop flights

As a skeptic, I look at the northeast, and say that may be the one place in the country it makes sense to have high speed rail because of the population density, and close proximity of the major cities.

People on here who have worked at both big companies and startups should really appreciate how hard it is to manage large organizations efficiently. Things that work great at small scale fall apart as they grow (both organizationally and te

wait a sec. The article totally leaps to that conclusion without evidence. It presents two facts - There were strong racist elements to the anti-cocaine movement, and that Coke removed cocaine. But you can't show from those two facts that C

Totally agree. According to Wikipedia, there are 2,774 four year universities in the US (4,495 if you include two year). If you can't get yourself into one of the top 1000 (I'm being generous), your time and money is probably better spent e

I have a ton of respect for both Singapore and Hong Kong, and would love the opportunity to live and work in Singapore. I just don't see them as exporters of consumer electronics trends. I think it is for a couple reasons. One is that a lot

Maybe it isn't isolationism, but it isn't a trickery to call it such. If you offered the text of the Libertarian platform on international affairs, many was say it describes an isolationist policy, without intending trickery. Also, whatever

Maybe the schizophrenia is causing the perception of bullying where there may not have been. E.g., "they bribed an ice cream truck to drive by every 15 minutes and ring the bell and play music near my window. "

Fair enough, there is a difference between non-intervention and isolationism. However, whatever you call it, that position is much more divergent from mainstream opinions than libertarian economics.
