If you love what you do, keep doing it. Improve upon what they have, whether that be the customer support, the interface, an extra feature or two, integration with other services... competition is good for you.

I posted RateMyStudentRental here a week ago (even though we actually launched to our school about 6 months ago), and the feedback was great. Of course posting here didn't really lead to repeat users, since our site is aimed primarily at st

We use BlinkSale ( http://www.blinksale.com ) for invoicing and like it very much. They have a nice interface for creating templates and recurring invoices as well. Though, as I began digging deeper into this area, I've begun to think that

Typically you just need some sort of version control and to routinely backup your database. But for those of us who like to be extra cautious, this is a good way to automate the process of backing up and archiving the entire thing.

A few have given us complements on it, yes, but both were students (i.e. younger probably with better eye-sight). The one I remember well enough to quote said, "I usually don't like dark-colored sites, but this one I definitely do." Maybe w

Ah, thank you very much. The "House, Condos,..." icons were a new addition to the site as of last night. I didn't even think of the fact that visitors would perceive those as links, so that is exactly what I'll make them. One of the problem

Good point on the icons, I'll fix that. Do you mind if I ask what OS/browser/display settings you're running? In the few months we've been testing the site at our school, you're the first user to complain about the stripes (including studen

Oh, and one thing I would ask about in particular is what your opinions are on homepage calls to action. RateMyStudentRental essentially needs students to rate their rentals. However, just saying "Rate your rental now" on the homepage doesn

I figured it's about time to bite the bullet and get some feedback from a community I've come to respect and trust. If anyone here is a student, it would be awesome if you could create an account (you may need me to add your school to the s

I had the exact same problem with no help and no cosigners. Eerily exact actually. My dad wouldn't help or co-sign and his income was too great to help with financial aid, and my mom was in no financial position to co-sign. So, what did I d

Those are both pretty good sites. If you're still not able to find anything, my partner and I do graphic design as well. http://www.alfajango.com for our portfolio.

Very nicely done. I like the cause, and it's very well designed. I posted it for my Facebook friends as well. The footer overlaps the content a little, making the bottom of the page difficult to read. That's using Firefox2 on XP.

Agreed, if you understand tax law (and it's not that difficult if you just follow directions usually), TurboTax is the way to go. I've been doing it for my personal and 1-man LLC for years. My new business partners actually went to a well-r

You can write off purchases before you incorporate (as a sole proprietorship), if that's what you're asking. Incorporate if you need liability protection or if you're going to take investment. I typically do that right away if it's a projec

I tried the built-in ip address geocoding in the Rails plugin, GeoKit. It's relatively accurate except for when the visitor is accessing the site from a corporate or school network, in which case it shows up where their main ISP hub is, whi

I agree that as an entrepreneur it's very beneficial to be able to change "modes" constantly all the time. I personally juggle school, a full-time co-op, a rock band currently recording an EP, a consulting company, two startups (one is on i
