This is one of my favourite sci-fi books. I'd put it up there with the Three Body Problem trilogy. Incredibly imaginative and a great story.

Battlebit and Minecraft (which was mentioned in another reply here) won't ever actually be mistaken for a game from the 1990s, there's way too much detail into the far distance, the lighting is too good, and the UI looks relativel

There is a significant second-hand market for good quality tools that were built to last. But you have to be reasonably informed in the first place as a consumer to know what's good and what's bad.

If you had to buy the top quality $20 screwdriver, maybe it'd eventually be passed on to one of our children, or go to someone else. I know that sounds kind of silly when we're talking about screwdrivers, but hopefully it'd s

Similarly amazing was the few games that had additional controller ports on the cartridge. Micro Machines 2 is one example.

No, but that sounds like a place I would have enjoyed.

When I was getting back into recording music I went looking for how other people have their home studios set up. I quickly found http://www.reddit.com/r/musicbattlestations , but people there often hadn't done the

Yep exactly, that's my experience as well. And I think the other reply saying it's possible to find them on eBay is kind of missing the point. Anywhere you can buy them is kind of obscure or unofficial. I don't understand why

When I was a kid in the 90s my parents took me to some sort of art gallery hidden upstairs above other shops, that was doing a hologram exhibition (wavefront holograms, not specular ones like in this article). It was dark inside and they ha

So viewing from 40cm away is about the point where 220PPI crosses the point where you can tell any difference? That makes me think 220 is quite a well picked number, as that's about how far away someone might typically be viewing.

My dishwasher manual suggested using white vinegar as a rinse aid alternative. I thought it might make the dishes smell like vinegar but it's been fine.

Maybe I should have used quote marks for everything after the first comma. I don't work at Reddit.

Ah, well, I'm sure a real response from Reddit would be much more careful than I was to point to the costs of their infrastructure and away from all the work users do to generate content for free.

by Nition 3y ago
I imagine Reddit's response would be, we have to show annoying ads etc to make back the money we spend on infrastructure. Apollo simply uses our work for free, and so can offer an artificially better deal.

I suppose really that's one of the big benefits of LLMs for everything. They're a friend who always has the time and willingness to try and help.

What the parent comment means is, they're not releasing it on the hardware officially. So it didn't need to be specifically a GameBoy Color game.

I was thinking this too. I'd be even less inclined to upvote low-effort posts, knowing that I'd also be paying them for that low effort. And more inclined to upvote high effort, less visible posts - both because I think they des

I get where you're coming from, but it's not strictly true. For instance if their model had given Hillary a 99.5% chance and Trump only 0.5%, then we could be pretty sure it wasn't a good model when Trump won. You might say e
