It's a mini-documentary by Nate Harrison from 2004, that 2006 version is just the first YouTube upload of it.

I think they probably mean empathy for users on slow Internet connections rather than for fellow staff. Basically making you test your software on a slow connection once a week.

Yeah it seems like a really easy way to make stereoscopes, because you can just adjust the spaces! I kinda want to play around with making one myself. I wasn't sure if you were just having trouble with this one, or if you didn't k

You look beyond the writing so that your eyes start to slip out of focus on the text and give a double image. Like how if you look at your computer screen while having a finger in front of your eyes, you'll see a double image of your f

This is a very harsh response. You can disagree and still have a civil discussion. Many cultures are represented on Hacker News and we can all learn something from each other. Edit: Okay, not quite as bad now after you edited out the last l

Thanks, I've updated my comment to say "sharing or possessing". Although I doubt anyone got prosecuted for possessing without ever sharing - how would you get caught?

NZ didn't prosecute anyone for only watching the video. Some were prosecuted for sharing (edit: or possessing) it though. One ended up with jail time[0]. [0] Philip Arps: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Arps

Are you maybe able to provide an example search that does this? I'm pretty sure quotes still always work as intended for me (although I still miss the loss of + a little, which was used for the same purpose).

As far as I recall it was pretty common to call :-) etc emoticons back in the day. Like 1990s/early 2000s.

That first paragraph really put me off the article to be honest. Why read an article on emoji by someone who doesn't know what emoji are? At the same time, I do realise "emoji" is now often being used as a generic term that e

Funny, I'm in New Zealand and I'm guessing you probably aren't, which means Gateway must have done the same game bundle around the world. Did yours also come with an exceptionally crappy two-button gamepad by any chance? Redl

As a kid, my family got a new PC and it came with the full version of Jazz Jackrabbit 2. Both the campaign and the local multiplayer were a lot of fun, but quite often the multiplayer crashed. I also read about the game having a level edito

You have done well at mimicking Le Guin's style here, but this isn't actually from Earthsea, is it? Did you write this yourself? Or this being Hacker News, did you ask an LLM to continue the except above? I don't think Le Gui
