If you have the opportunity, Dinosaur national monument in Utah is well worth the visit. They have an exposed fossil bearing rockface that you can get very close to, and you can see how the fossils differ from the surrounding stone.

This happened on a log carrying frieghter near here, a few years ago. The unprocessed logs in the holds are slowly rotting, so the air in the holds can be depleted of oxygen. A crewman went into the hold to check on something, and collapsed

They've been using that lining technique for sewage and stormwater pipes near where I live. I'm not sure how it will translate to much narrower pipes with tighter bends.
