Eh, not sold on native sql in a programming language. It doesn't take into account the different styles of databases, let alone the different sql dialects. I think it presents a similar problem as Scala's xml literals, which are n

You can replace a house to the extent that the old residents are happy with the new house. You can't really replace a deceased family member with someone else.

I'm currently interviewing with a company where the HR person in charge of my case left the company. My emails to him were getting Postmaster responses, so I emailed someone else asking what happened, and apparently no one knew that I

While null may be the simplest way to represent nothing between a large amount of data types, I think the biggest issue (beyond how far null can propagate from the source in error scenarios) is that it's overloaded with too many possib

There was just a post on HN to a site that went over this exact problem. Essentially, you do two linear scans to calculate the product of every number before an index, and to calculate the product of every number after an index. Then, for e

Every time I hear someone mention behavioral differences due to the biological differences between men and women, my response (that I'm stealing from my professor) is that the differences amongst men and women outweigh the differences

I do every new Python project in Python 3 when I can. Unfortunately, there are still cases where I need to write a script to run on CentOS6 environments, and I can't install any dependencies :/.

I didn't completely grok the white paper you linked. Is it basically suggesting that we remove the capability for arbitrary recursion and limit it to a set of recursive primitives (folds, filters, zips, etc)? And the motivation for thi

When I go to hit delete, my fingers curl up and end up hitting something on the touch bar. Before I took the lock button off the touch bar, this lead to some absolutely maddening interruptions in my work flow. Removing that made it better,

IMO there's a difference between fake news and opionated news. Fake news is stories like Ted Cruz's father being involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy. There's nothing factually true in the story itself. This is an

I use a Chromebook as my primary college as a CS student in college. Look up Crouton, it lets you chroot into Ubuntu and Debian distros. From there, you can install native programs with ease, and you still get the Chromebook price.
