> Additionally, I don't like the aspect ratio of the floppy disk. The Amiga used a standard 320x200 pixel mode [1] for it's boot screen. On a normal 4:3 CRT this mean the pixels are non-square. Since CRTs are analog, it doesn&#

I enjoy Reddit, but it's just not designed for smaller communities in my opinion. The tricky thing with reddit is that it's algorithm tuned for a daily churn. A small sub, like the one you mentioned, may only have a couple good po

I think that's another reason I like HN. There is no direct messaging like other social media, so if someone wants to interact with you they need to reply publicly. It's a small thing, but I think it is an important part of HN.

>Not to mention that the 10900 has a 65W TDP vs 105W for the Ryzens. TDP is lie these days .The 65W intel chips will use over 200W in most motherboards.[1] The 10 core you're using will use even more. The 5900X would use 130W max. W

Some older Zowie gaming monitors let you strobe the backlight at 60Hz to work with older software, as well as some modern TVs. It's quite fiddly to setup, but it can be worth it if you enjoy your old 60Hz locked games looking smooth.

A perfect 120Hz OLED is still over 8ms of blur (MPRT), a crt is closer to 1.5ms MPRT. There also are almost no OLEDs the right size for PC gaming. Hopefully as VR tech becomes mainstream, display tech can improve up to the 1.5ms mark.

CRTs have some really nice characteristics with moving content. If you're using an LCD or OLED display now, if you quick scroll or drag a window around you'll see you can't read the text while it's moving. CRTs are diffe

Just for context, the M1's latency is fairly close to other LPDDR4(x) systems (Tigerlake and Zen3 SoCs). This is fairly typical of LPDDR4 compared to normal DDR4, part of the compromise. Not the most scientific, but userbenchmark is us

The heavier feel may not be preferred, but it makes having a flexible, cheap suspension design much easier. For example small carthat weighs 1000kg may be be expected to carrier 4-5 adults, an additional ~350kg. To do this the suspension mu

The biggest issue on W10 is that there's no way to even more windows from one workspace to another without several clicks, unlike most Linux implementations that have hot keys or dragging the icon around.

Under Android, if apps want to be respectful, they can. For example, the Discord Android will fall back to system file-pickers if you block storage permissions. Since there's no incentive to be privacy respecting, very few other apps I

It'll start fine if you fill it with 0W or 5W oil and didn't compromise on the battery. Even -30C should be fine. Some people fill their car with 10W oil or don't buy a battery with adequate CCA, but that's on them.

It won't be a fad if it's cheaper to add a touch screen than adding mechanical switch gear to cars. I agree with the article though, it can be dangerous. Unless there are legal consequences, I don't see touch screens going aw

"Memory starving" a CPU is almost always a latency issue except with very specific workloads. A double wide memory controller would be very cool if they wanted to make a high performance integrated GPU though.

I believe the problem is that apple has stuck with LPDDR memory for performance (33% more memory bandwidth keeps integrated GPUs happy) and to hit power/efficiency targets (variable frequency). Instead of a DIMM, LPDDR basically puts a

Frame rust isn't a big deal on bicycle. Even in the 80's high-alloy steel like 4130 "Chromo" has been popular with bicycles. I've abused my 70's mtb bicycle with thousands of km of rustbelt winter riding and my

ANC doesn't ever provide perfect isolation. If you see advertisements ANC it will say "blocks 99% of sound" or "cancels 99.9% of noise" which is equivalent to a 20dB and 30dB drop respectively. You're right tho

More indoor lighting can make a big difference, especially for folks with Seasonal Affective Dissorder. CO2 can also cause brainfog, so measuring CO2 content and cracking open a window can really make working indoors less constricting.

It's not just phase mismatch. There is error in the frequency domain, both from the digital processing going on and the physical characteristics of the driver.

It's not, the issue was there is no wear leveling, so it's 1.4 writes per day. This is approximately 2 trips a day, 5 days a week. Reading between the lines I believe the car "eats into" the 3000-5000 cycles everytime it
