The first time I heard about ffmpeg was last night when I had to concatenate a few hundred thousand videos. So slick, so quick, but it took a bit to figure out the command structure. Guess I found this 12 hours too late, haha!

Thanks for the thorough response! This is really interesting stuff. I have a few HDD magnets stuck to my wall and their existence confused me. I would never have guessed that the falloff was that big.

In terms of maximizing legibility, limiting the line length and increasing line height/spacing/leading is something so easy and so valuable. The rest feels stylistic (and that totally has its place) and not ESSENTIAL to legibility

Okay, I need a smart person to explain to me why magnets don’t destroy my technology anymore. I swear growing up I was told that even looking at a magnet would wipe my drives and turn my screen into rainbows. Now we’re sticking them to our

I guess we’re pushing the point with modern blockbusters (Marvel/Star Wars) where more of the movie is animated then not. And Avatar is inverse Who Framed Roger Rabbit at this point.

Interesting take that I haven’t heard before, outside of like Diamond Age. If you were a betting man, what would your timeline be? When does computer generated imagery surpass camera footage when representing reality? When does a drama shoo

Both of these comments are ditches alongside the road of truth. 4k on a laptop is not necessary, but it is noticeable and sometimes valuable. I have a 4K laptop screen and I like it a lot. I have a 1080p monitor and I notice the resolution

I live in a small-mid sized city in Ontario. The biggest issue with our lack of housing is a hugely corrupt local government that has introduced a TON of extra fines and red tape to the building process. Plus there's a tremendous amoun

Well Twitter never really hooked me, so I’m mostly just a curious onlooker, but to me it seems that Twitter is pretty stagnant. Do you think there’s a possibility that this change has a positive outcome?

I’m curious how you think this is going to ruin anything for you. Do you mean on a tangible level, or on an emotional level? Do you actually think there will be large scale policy changes that will damage your ability to communicate with pe

My in-laws foster and this is the first use case I thought of. It’s sad to take a big family photo and either not be able to share it, or have to take a duplicate without the foster child.

On one hand, this is a valuable rule that can improve communication. On the other hand, if any one has the time to share this, they have time to say "Hey, what's up?". For a site about improving communication, it has a surpri

Happily married. The only general advice I can offer is to ensure you have the same primary priorities and make sure they’re someone who you’re willing to put before yourself. Easier said than done, but lasting love isn’t easy.

It’s a shame cows will be extinct in 100 years. After the lab-meat craze of 2042, the military will use their vast domestic drone fleets to exterminate all remaining cattle from the surface of the earth to appease progressive anti-methane v

Fair points. I like that we have lots of different smart people tackling the problem from different angles, though. I’m optimistic about technology here because I don’t think people will trade concrete quality of life now for abstract quali
