Yes. I have a copy of The Gift, and while I've yet to finish it, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the dynamics of OSS projects. See also this brilliant piece by Avery Pennarun on OSS, log4j, and the nature of gif

IMO, "crackpot" and "crank" are quite far from "butthead". The first two communicate precisely what you've described, and are a significant charge to level at a scientist. The last is a playground insult

I don't see it that way. To me, not caring what is true is exactly that - not caring. Your actions might be rooted in truth or not, but you don't care. You get your dopamine hits and who gives a shit how they came to happen? Being

Sure, but as noted that isn't a prototype - it's a sloppy product. That's when it's time to have a frank discussion about whether that's really what they want (and maybe to consider whether this project is really wh

Not even just "look like a prototype" - a prototype must be _incomplete_. If it's not? You have a solution, so of course it's going to be deployed. The fact that your solution is gonna fall over due to being brittle code

The key to having prototypes and PoCs work out okay is to leave some important piece of UX out entirely. Such an approach gets you the benefits of being able to explore a problem space with code in a quick, sloppy manner, without any risk o
