Thanks for sharing. You've paid a significant price for a very tough life lesson. It takes guts to be so open about it. Kudos.

Might need some self-reflection on this comment. You are suggesting you have a better insight than a company that just generated $18b in profit. They know what they are doing (TM).

What makes you think it isn't? The courts don't randomly choose numbers. Actuaries are involved to calculate the future cost of these events in order to determine what funding is required today.

This makes sense to me and might just need some context. My grandfather died from mesothelioma - a dust based disease caused, in his case, by asbestos. As a 20/30 year old plumber, he was using asbestos products without any protection

You do realise that there are countries outside of the USA? Australia has no 2G networks and 3G is approaching EOL.

Depends who is asking and when they ask. When there's a run, 2% is clearly bad for depositors wanting their cash back. When times are good, the banks investors want capital working as hard as possible to low available assets (usually)

I don't disagree with you. Bank runs can still happen even with the (successful) FDIC backstop.

The parallel is selling equity when you are in trouble is not ideal. Different reasons or sectors or whatever...but the principal is the same.

It might be worth looking into the Elk M1 security platform. It is fully supported in Home Assistant and allows you to leave all the messy electronics and integration work to a (somewhat) cheap, well engineered and understood platform. It&#

Maybe this supports the articles theory, but I feel wine is more of an experience more than just the chemical composition of the drink. After all, wine isn't consumed just for it's nutritional content. You can get a good story fro

Talking out aloud here...could vertical farming help here? My theory is that we only use so much land because it needs access to the sun. If we use LED's and stack vertically, we can condense down the footprint.

So much this! Add in health issues to your list of "reasons why things can be different". It's ignorant to think that your experience with kids is how it is for everyone. Kids can be hard - very hard.
