The "crime of the week" never really gets any better, and since it was an ABC drama it needed to hew pretty closely to that formula. From S02 onwards they start building a mythology about the machine and where it comes from etc,

To directly answer your question: people buy autopilot so they can check their phone while commuting down the freeway to work. I was talking to a group of people about the difficulties of commuting in the Santa Clara Valley, and one guy sh

Yeah I think OP is highlighting the presence of the over-broad definition of neglect in the first place.

While my only source is the Fall of Rome podcast that others on this thread are raving about, one key point he makes is that whether or not it was a 'Fall' depends a lot on where you lived. Yes, there was lots of continuity in Aq

I wonder what the retention rate would be if one tried to do laundry while reading a traditional book :)

Because there is a third category, 'exciting but not true', which is at high risk of distorting the decision making process and getting funding that is badly needed elsewhere (see, for example, Scott Kelley's DNA, anything to

There are lots of 'condotels' in tourist areas, which are essentially full-service condo buildings that explicitly sell on the idea that the owner can use it for their own holidays, then rent it on AirBNB/VRBO in all the othe

AirBNB has their own version of a 'showrooming' problem as well - last time I went to Hawaii, I found a nice condo that I liked, then searched for that same condo online, found the owner's standalone website offering similar

It's the hosts who are stuck paying mortgages on rooms they can't rent, not AirBNB. To AirBNB a recession just shows up as a decline in the number of transactions on the site.

It's a simple task to model a tax-funded healthcare system as an insured system (with monopsony), where the government is the insuror and the taxes that are directed to the are the premium. (And since the government is the sole payor i

To riff on your concept, I met a woman in SF who was signing up for a lease at an apartment building. Knowing that she'd just moved from the midwest, and therefore not used to living in a big city, I asked her how parking was. "

I was going to comment on this one too. There are lots of projections of which sections of SF will be underwater, and those are the cheapest places to live. It is already priced into the market.

While I'm guessing you're being sarcastic, a number of corporate head offices use 'secret shoppers' or other similar techniques for ensuring their retail locations are following corporate policy.

You actually do. An employee of Motel 6 (the housekeeper) sweeps your Motel 6 room every single day, or at least between stays. Furthermore the onsite management is explicitly expected to enforce corporate regulations. Yet no ABNB employ

You mention skyrocketing tuition, but haven't mentioned the second major cause of declining admissions, which is that employment rate for new grads _still_ hasn't recovered from 2008-2009 declines[1]. [1] https://www.nal
