Wine for Amiga is as confusing as Windows Subsystem for Linux. I thought it would be a port of Wine for the Amiga but it's instead something to run Amiga software on PC.

They do need to lock it down if they want to subside it with store purchases, otherwise it's too tempting for non-gaming uses where they don't get any money after the initial sale.

What makes you think they're talking about CPU? It reads to me like it's memory.

Those aren't really good names either, IMO. Even the 360 was just OK. They should just have gone with Xbox 2. Or Xbox 3 and skipped a number if they really were worried about lagging behind PlayStation as it's sometimes alleged.

Poor name, clashes with the old KDE Javascript engine used with KHTML.

Same situation but I'm using NetBSD instead. I'm betting it'll still be supporting 32-bit x86 long after the linux kernel drops it.

PS5 version doesn't suffer from this issue. It's already much smaller.

One even responded to an earlier comment of mine that we shouldn't be optimizing software for low-end machines because that would be going against technological progress... https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=46152275

It absolutely is slower. To an extreme degree even. It takes 10 to 20 seconds to load and is incredibly sluggish to use on some low-end machines I use regularly.

You may be thinking of UT99 or even the first Unreal. UT2k4 required a GPU and didn't have a software renderer.

That used to be the case, but this current generation the vast majority of games have a 60 fps performance mode. On PS5 at least, I can't speak about other consoles.

I think they were talking specifically about this game, which is only available on PS5 and PC. Edit: Forgot it was released recently on Xbox Series consoles but those also have SSDs.

No, the 8088 used in the PC has a 2 byte word size. More importantly, it only has an 8-bit data bus, so alignment didn't really matter because it fetched instructions one byte at a time.

I am from France. It's pronounced exactly the same here. Kids always joke about it when they first learn the English word 'bit'.

> bit (in English) is not pronounced the same as bite (in French). The French word is closer in pronunciation to “beet” or “beat” in English. Wrong, it's pronounced exactly like the English "bit".
